Do their motherboards still support IDE hard drives?

I know all their new stuff has SATA hard drives, but are their CD/DVD drives still IDE?

Anyone know? A certain member here has a new HP, but all their music is on another hard drive from an old computer.

I just recently purchased a HP compaq paserio 1750NX AMD 3500+(in march 06) Original HD sata, and It does have support for IDE I installed the drives from my previous comuter with no problems Oh the CD/DVD is also IDE.

Hope that helps.

an ide to sata bridge adapter is $13 btw at new egg. I run two and they are no-brainers

Most newer components now-a-days only have 1 onboard IDE connection. Usually on the sata systems, the hard drives of course are connected via SATA, and the optical drives and such are still IDE. They will eventually phase out IDE. Next year they will have the sata optical drives more in stores.

I am aware of only one SATA DVD. I have no idea why optical drives are so married to the IDE interface.

Sooner than you think. My ICH8 southbridge does not have a IDE controller, it's only there via the Jmicron controller. Intel has already announced that IDE will no longer be supported with the ICH9 (Bearlake) southbridge due next year since the new chipset will have SATA port replication that will supposedly allow up to 15 sata devices.

Lite-on and plextor already have SATA optical drives but like I said, a IDE to SATA converter is $12. Its just a little board that connects to the back of any IDE device (in my case, a DVDR and a CDR) and has a sata connector. It's completely transparent and there is nothing to configure. I do have to admit that when building my machine it was weird not having any IDE cables though
