Do you want to mix down into your computer or are you trying to get the four individual tracks into the computer?

I've pulled stuff off a fostex 4 track cassette by going from the line out (mix) on the cassette machine to the line in on my soundcard. It took an adapter, mini stereo to two rca jacks. Then recorded onto Cakewalk Music Creator the same as recording live, make sure to arm the line in record instead of the mic in. You may have to record one track at a time then align the tracks.

thanks! i want to record each track seperately. what's a mini stereo? i have a usb to rca adapter. so is there any way i can plug my rcas into the fostex (line out) and connect the usb to my computer and record? with cakewalk sonar?

I've never tried a RCA> usb connector but I assume that it should work much the same as going directly to the line in on your soundcard. By mini stereo jack I mean a 1/8 inch stereo jack, same as a headphone jack with a right and left RCA jacks on the other end. I think I paid about $4 for it. A connection like this will also allow you to use the tape deck as a mixer/preamp to record directly on the computer. This comes in real handy if you decide to add more tracks after you load the first four into the comp. If you have a decent sound card you can get some surprisingly good recordings this way.

thank you so much dani. that sounds awesome! no luck yet with the usb but i'm going to buy a y adapter at radio shack for yeah, like 4 bucks or something. CAN'T WAIT. it'll be fun.
