Hey guys and gals, this is my first post to this crazy BBS, so be gentle.

I have:

P4 2.0gig
Behringer Eurorack UB1202
Cad c195 condenser mic
two other crappy mics
zoom 505 pedal
Cool Edit Pro 2.0
not too much talent or skill

I record basic punk rock distortion kind of stuff.

Basically my questions are:

1. I followed dragon's advice and am recording into the Line-In on my computer. First off, the sound is mono, so its only on the left side. How do I get it to go to the right side? I just cant figure this out. (Tried panning the mixer, panning the program, panning my face into the wall...) I am sure there is a simple answer to this question, so sorry for asking.

2. I am not able to turn my mixer up to even half way before the sound monitor (in Cool Edit) hits red. Is this normal? If not, what is going wrong.

3. What is the FX knob on my mixer for? I have no clue what it does.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Let me see what I can do (not much, but I can help a little).

1. You can only record one track at a time into recording software doing that. If it's the soundcard your pc came with, it's not going to be very effective. Look into buying a pc interface (soundcard) like the M-Audio.

2. The problem there seems to be the soundcard in your pc is not built to handle what the mixer is sending it. See comment #1.

3. The FX knob on your mixer is for adding effects in your signal chain. It controls the FX to dry signal ratio.

You didn't mention the software you are recording into. If you get the M-Audio interface (some call them soundcards), it will come with software. I don't remember which. Here is a link so you can look at what I am referring to:

http://www.m-audio.com/

They make a lot of different interfaces. Most recommend the Delta or Audio Buddy...

Good luck, and welcome to the board!

1a. START>CONTROL PANEL>SOUND AND AUDIO DEVICES>VOICE>VOICE RECORDING>VOLUME>select ANALOG STEREO

or

1b. right-click the speaker icon on the bottom toolbar of your desktop>OPEN VOLUME CONTROL>OPTIONS>PROPERTIES>check RECORDING>OK>select ANALOG STEREO

1c. Did you make sure that the cable running into the IN of your computer is working properly?

2. Lower the input of the line IN on your computer (refer to #1).

3. That is for if you are sending a signal OUT to an external FX unit and back into the mixer (it effects the amount that is blended back into the mixer).
