I was listening to a conversation that was discussing hooking a drum machine into a recorder using the midi cable. What benefit would this give as compared to using rca plugs?

Also, they were talking about the drum machine being able to adapt to the tempo's being played?

Does this make sense and am I a long ways from understanding the concept?

You or your friends are a little confused. You still have to use the audio outputs to hear anything.

What they were probably talking about was using another sequencer to drive the drum machine thru midi. You still need to hook up the audio outs to hear it though. It is easy to do temp changes in most sequencers.

Remember that MIDI is just use to pass messages to equipment about changes in what shoul dbe played - what actually creates the audio is another matter.
