hey all,

I want to record through my PC (running XP) using Sound Forge.

I've determined that I want to use a Shure KSM27 mic, but my head is swirling about the other stuff...I said I was a newbie and I meant it.

Here's the thing, I will be recording my voice ONLY - no other tracks - so as to send mp3 voice over auditions to prospective clients. The only tweaking will be done with Sound Forge, if that. Auditions only - not the final product.

My budget is virtually nonexistant. The Tascam USB122 has been recommended to me...any comments? Would AudioBuddy work, or what about those Behringer mic preamps that are around $50?

for an fyi - a friend of mine who does this same work uses an Shure SM57 mic. As tempting as it may be, I don't want to start collecting equipment that I won't use. Bare bones is the name of the game.

Thank you for any and all input.

Hi John...

I totally hear you about the vx2496 (maybe it was you who recommended it to be on another forum here - can't remember).

Is the AES/EBU digital out the only difference between the vx2000 and the vx2496? In fact, I called zzounds.com about that very question today, but the sales rep tried to steer me to the digidesign mbox with the possibility of using an ART tube mic pre when I'm more ready to tackle that. The difference is price is only $30 between the two Behringers - but it seems that people either love or hate Behringer. I need to consult my pendulum.

So what is your sound card recommendation? Echo Mia MIDI, was it?

Thank you...Lord willing I can put some business your way when I'm more established!

Hey John - another question

Yep, it's almost 4 in the morning.

Since I won't be requiring a high number of inputs, could I use an original Echo Mia (not MIDI)?

I saw you post something about them blowing out for like $100 in another section.

Would that be an inexpensive yet effective option for my voice work?

Thank you!

Yeah, if you can find the original model, I've seen them go for $100 (or less) where they still have them. It's been a couple months, so you might have to do some digging.

It's a solid performing card. No AES/EBU, but it does have RCA S/PDIF I/O. Maybe Ebay...

And although I'm not a Behringer expert, I believe that the only difference between the 2000 & the 2496 is the digital out. Love 'em or hate 'em, you can hardly beat the price for those features...
