HI everyone this is my first post so be easy on me. Ok I want to start producing hiphop track with some equipment I already have and I want to know what else do I need.

Triton rack
motif keyboard
mpc2000xl
Delta 1010
monitor speakers
mackie mixer

My first question is how would I setup everything to work with my computer. I would like to know what would be the best software to use. I don't want the software to sequence so is there anyway to bypass that in the software.

Question #2
DO you who do hip do you all record track-for-track in the software or do you somehow make the whole beat on you mpc and then set it to the computer as audio (would that make unwanted noise in you recording).

thanks

Be easy ? Oh you think just because this is your first post we are supposed to be nice to you....hell naw!

Just kidding. welcome to the family. Most of the people here are cool as hell. I would say go to all the sites and download the demos. Everybody uses different stuff its jus a matter of what you are most comfortable with.

As far as setup goes I would need to know what equipment you have. there are some must you will need like a good sound card. Also what type of pc do you have how fast is the processor how much memory do you have. Do you play any instruments are you good with computers.

Some people make the beat and import it some do track for track again it is a matter of which way you work best.

Good luck

He's got a setup a lot better than mine at the present time. He's got a good sound card. but like . Sound boy said... what are the specs of your computer. i got a 733mhz PIII w 512 Ram, and have trouble with certain programs, so i'm PC shopping.

I have a asus a7m266 mobo and a AMD 1.3processor wiith 512 ram

but soundoy

if I do it rack for track off my mpc how will I get everthing to sync up on time in the softeare

just to let everyone know, i'm posting this while listening to sol's beat in my headphones. this s#$% is banging. anyway, the software program will allo you to slide-position each track where you need it to go. one method is to dump or (record) each track into the software program seperately on it's on time line one at a time. for example, record the kick drums, but have every other part of the beat muted, then bring the record marker back to the beginning. push play on mpc, triton, motif, whatever, have the kick drum along with everything else muted, except for the snare this time. this method can require further editing. you may have to cut and trim tracks or what not. there are easier ways, but since i don't produce via hardware, i would only be pissing in the wind. i'm pretty shure that someone will clarify what i just said and and then some. good luck.

i like what you are working with

so far you have a damned good setup. a monster pc, some software, a good condencer mic, and you'll be str8. that is untill you want to record live vocals or instruments. that is a new animal.

You would sync the MPC to you computer.

You would make the computer program the MASTER. The MPC would be the SLAVE.

Depending on the program you use, you would use MIDI TIME CODE or MIDI CLOCK (the MPC accepts both).

Then, depending on the number of MPC OUTPUTS you have and the number of computer INPUTS you have, you can transfer 2 to 8 tracks at a time.

They will be synced perfectly. ;)

peace...

thanks everyone

I have one more question that I can't get answered. Ok I play Bass and lead Guitar. Can you tell me how would I record guitar to go along with my beats and be sequenced with my mpc. Would I have to buy one of those midi guitar modules like the J-station or something like that. I know I can sample small loop with my music but I would rather Do a little actua playing sometime instead of looping.

thanks

you can mic your guitar from a monitor or guiatar cabinet and record it to a track in let's say acid pro, in real time while the other tracks that are already recorded are playing. there are easier ways i'm sure but i'm just telling you what i know. hope it helps a little. i don't know anything about guitars but if it's an electric one you can put the mic infront of the speaker which works better in a sound proof booth. if it's not electrical you may have to find a sweet spot to place the mic in front of you while you play along in a sound proof booth. if you don't have a sound proof booth, hopefully you have an accoustically treated space to record in. just offering some newbie advice, you may want to wait for a pro to come behind me and shed more light on the subject. peace.
