Hi, I'm a real novice with recording on PC so try not to flame me too much!

Basically I'm having problems channeling effects into guitar input....

I have Soundblaster Live 1024, and with this I'm able to apply effects to my guitar through the mike-input, whilst having a CD play (with NO effects) simultaneously....but when using CoolEdit Pro (multitrack), I am unable to record guitar through the mike-input on one track WITH effects applied via soundblaster, WITHOUT the same soundblaster effect being applied to the drum sequence I have running in another track. Any ideas?

Cheers

The SB is applying the effects to the master out most likely. You will probably be better off using the effects in Cool Edit.

The other option is to route different signals to different outputs on the SB. Then use a mixer to adjust the 4 SB outputs.

Thanks for the speedy reply TexRoadKill...it seems I'll have to play with re-routing the soundblaster....if I can manage to figure out how! I've been told it's not the best soundcard but we will see! Maybe that's my excuse for not having a clue how to tweak the thing!

Unless your just screwing around and want the effects for monitoring I would forget about the SB effects. You will get much better results using the CoolEdit effects after you have recorded a clean track.

I have spent 100's of hours on a SB with CoolEdit doing small audio production jobs and if you keep it simple and get a good signal coming into the card you can have some nice recordings.
