Now then,

So, believe it or not I've been using a Tascam US428 very happily in my home studio now for some years - but with the upgrade to Lion on my Mac, it no longer seems to be working, sadly.

Can anyone recommend a modern equivalent? The Mac obviously has both USB and Firewire, and although I've never had a problem with the Tascam, maybe it's time to go Firewire? My basic requirement is something that will support analogue audio for bass/guitar, midi, XLR (preferably powered but I do have an external in-line power unit) and will be a control surface etc. in Logic express. I do sometimes use the US428 'mobile' with the Macbook to record bands in session etc. so more than one simultaneous track is required - but no more than 5 at this time.

Any advice appreciated,

TG

I think your best bet is probably the TASCAM FW-1082, which as far as I'm aware literally is the modern replacement.
It's got 4 mic amps and up to 8 input channels. If you need 5 mic amps, then probably the M-Audio Projectmix I/O is the next step up with 8 mic amps.

hope it helps
