Hello folks!

Swapped my SB Live 1024 for a Terratec DMX6 Fire. Now I can't hear any audio effects from Homestudio.

Also just installed a faster hard drive and ghosted the contents from the old to the new. It was working fine at first. No problems with other programmes.

Any ideas?

Do you mean is the DMX 6 Fire showing as the device used for audio/midi etc in Homstudio, yes it is.

I have no problem with hearing what I play or playing back what I record. It's just that I can't add any affects from the software to audio. Don't know about midi (Dxi) affects, haven't tried yet.

Can you specify, what effect did you try to insert? Sound Blaster family cards have their own "effect" called "EAX". Off course, they won't run on other cards :) However, regular Dierctx effects inserted in the track should work on any card.

Sorry I misunderstood your post. Do you still have a list of effects to select from? Have you tried applying them via an aux buss? How about destructively?

Did you try adjusting the properties in the Terratec Control Panel?

Any effect from the software (Homstudio).

"Did you try adjusting the properties in the Terratec Control Panel?"

Yes, everything seems to be ok as far as the card is concerned. As I said I get good playback/record playback.

Yes and I don't know what the hell your talking about.

BluesMeister To The Rescue...

Budo,

I'm guessing that you may have been a little misleading in your original statement: Now I can't hear any audio effects from Homestudio.

SB Live 1024 built-in wave-table synthesis
Terratec DMX6 Fire no wave-table synthesis

In other words, your MIDI tracks play all those lovely jingly jangly noises with your SB Live, but with the Terratec, nothing, nada, silencio. Am I on the right track here?

Assuming I've hit the nail on the head (ah where would we be without cliches?) you'll need to use a software synthesiser to replay those MIDI sounds. Fortunately HS has Edirol Virtual Sound Canvas bundled with it that will do precisely what you want.

Go to the section in your manual Tutorial 9 - Using Soft Synths, it explains everything.

Eventually, you'll tire of the VSC sounds and will want to invest in a decent SoundFont player. If you upgrade to HS2004XL, there's a bundled SF player called Dyad DXi. Search the CakeWalk forum for a tutorial on how to use Dyad with SoundFonts.

Cheers BluesMeister!

Re-installed HS 2002 and it solved the problem!

Here's a weird one though - Terrartec comes with three 'SETS' of drivers. The latency is terrible on drivers 1/2 but perfect on 3/4 and 5/6. But I don't get playback on the last two, only on 1/2.

HS2004XL or Sonar? Decisions, decisions.
