Hey All I need some Newbie advice,

So I'm simply trying to capture some guitar lesson from a cassette tape using the line input 3 on the back of the m-audio breakout box. I have an RCA cable that converts to a 1/4 jack from the Record Outs of the tape deck, then plugged into the Line Input 3.

According to the manual I have the following settings:

From the Delta's Patchbay/Router page - H/W Out 1/2 set to "Monitor Mixer" & H/W Out 3/4 is set to "WavOut 3/4"

From the Monitor Mixer page - i have unmuted channels for H/W in 3/4 with faders to full level. Unmuted the channels for H/W Out 1/2 with faders raised to full level.

In SoundForge in the Record window I have the device set to Delta 66 3/4.

I hit play on the tape deck, see levels come up on the deck, but nothing registers in Soundforge, or through the monitors. Just to troubleshoot I also tried plugging in a portable cd player into Line Input 3 with no results.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

ok, so you are trying to basically play a tape into your computer and record it using the m-audio device?

here's how I would do that (i have a m-audio delta 1010 so i'll use that as an example):

use an rca-1/4 inch converter and plug it into the out's of the tape deck, and into channel 3/4 (IN @ -10db) into the delta. make sure you have the software settings correct in the m-audio control panel...

then in recording software select stereo channel 3/4 and record.

that should be it. if it doesn't work, make sure your tape deck is sending the audio signal to the card.

Thanks I got it to work. I had pushed the "To Ins 1,2" Switch on the back of the breakout box to the out position. The manual explains it as this:

"To Ins 1, 2” Switch: This switch, when pressed and locked to the in position,
will send the stereo signal that is present at the Aux In 1 jack to the Delta
H/W In 1 & 2. The Aux In 1 signal is then simultaneously muted to the
Omni stereo buss.

I don't understand the function of these things? Could anyone explain?
I have the tape deck plugged into line 3 & 4 with this button pushed in and it works. It just sounds like it shouldn't with the explanation above.
