Hello to the group. Of the places I have visited on the net, this is the least likely to blow sunshine up my ass when it comes to critiques. There is a mix that I have been working on that I would like to get some feedback on. Please comment on the songwriting, production, mix, performance or anything else you feel relevant about the song, positive or negative. Although this isn't an invitation to needlessly slam it, I've got my bulletproof vest on! Thanks a lot!

Very strange. I just checked it here and it worked fine. This isn't a site, it's just a link to the mp3 that should download to your HD or play in Media Player. The internet page will initally show up missing until the file completely downloads and then it will play.

Is the link in your first post working for you?Maybe it's not on the server yet and you are launching the mp3 file it locally from your hardrive?Whatever the case it's no where to be found those of us who are not on your puter.:D

I just checked your user name on at&t and it says "No Content" for username "kciyer".User has not yet moved in....

Wow! Really sorry for the trouble guys. I'm gonna have to do some debugging here to get the link working. Bye for now.

OK... Well....

You've got some kind of HUGE limiting/compression/somethin' goin' on in the verse... it's almost like the verse and the chorus are two totally different mixes. Whatever you're doing to the verse... stop. :p The chorus sounds much fuller. But it's not like the chorus is too much better, because the whole entire song is incredibly compressed... to the extreme. It's pretty darn noticable.

That said,... it's not a bad song. And the production is pretty good. I like the sounds of some of the elements. The gits could use a little better tone. They were a little thin. (including the solo) The drums sounded OK. The vocals were OK during the chorus, but they sounded pretty bad during that hyper-compressed verse thingy that you had goin' on.

Over-all the recording is decent and the song is decent.

Btw,... I would suggest using a different MP3 encoder (with VBR) and posting a new file, so we can hear it at a bit rate other than 128K. (which limits our ability to give a realistic critique of the mix.)

No complaints here.I think the song and mix kick a$$.The high end might be a little too overly hyped but thats about the only thing that bothered me.It's just good to hear a guitar based rocker for a change.

What did you record this on?

It's amazing how different musicians hear songs differently. I thought the first half or so of the guitar solo was the best part of the whole thing. I thought the drums (especially the cymbals) sounded like a guy playing on those little 4 pad things that you buy at Service Merchandise with a speaker built in.

Definitely it jumps out at you when the chorus kicks in. The song jams. It just needs some fine tuning. There are some sounds at :38 or :39 that are especially ...ummm... concerning. Seems they happen at the same time in most of the choruses.

It's got a lot of potential in my opinion.

Neat drumming. Some weird shit going on though.Like the compression ratio is wrong on the overall mix.The mix itself is clear, a bit on the high end.During the verse it's most noticable.Good musicianship.80's poprock all the way.Programmed drums right? If not good sound and performance.Bring up those guitars.Strong tune.Needs some mastering work.Great 1st post.

I liked the guitar parts. I liked the drumming. The harmonies were cool. I liked the singing too. The song wasn't too bad.

One big thing I noticed was that there is a huge difference in volume between the verses and chorus. When that chorus first hits, it's kind of startling. I found that a bit distracting.

I would have liked that main guitar to have some more low mids. It's got a decent tone, and it's a cool part. But it needs a stronger base to it IMO.

The bass could use a little more punch. You could probably boost the level too.

Some crackling going on from :14-:17.

I noticed the overhyped highs too. It's particulary appanant on the cymbals (as one would probably expect).

Hope this helps. I thought it was a pretty good job.

You may be new here but not to recording!

I liked the tune as it had lots of flash. The only thing that Id do is adjust the dynamics on the different parts as stated above. Bass sounded good to me. maybe some background noise or hiss but See what the people with ears say about that.

Peace

Just getting in from my gig.....

......OK newb..............let's see what you've got.....:D

Well first off .....nice music.......I like the song, I like the vocals, I like the playing.....very nice.

The mix though......the first thing that popped out at me was the vocals had a strange sort of midrangey tone to them.....and to some extent, the whole recording does........also the guitars need to come up a little and I think maybe they could be a little cleaner. That might not be changable but they need to be mixed where they aren't so muddy, I kinda felt the same about the ride......it was too mushy sounding to clearly hear what was being played......and I'd really want people to hear that ride clearly if I had done it. And all the instruments need to come up in the mix....or turn down the vox ( can't believe I said that )

Nice work....welcome to the clinic....yadda yadda yadda...I'm going to bed.....

with Foghorn Leghorn voice:

Your goin' about it all the wrong way.

I say, I say lay off that compressor a bit there son!

:D

Seriously it sounds like you did a lot of good work tracking this. Don't squash it to death like the major label stuff you hear lately.

I also agree that you've turned cymbals into migraine inducing devices through EQ. Easy!

What are you using for monitors?

The tune rocks! Definately has an 80's pop-metal vibe.
