hey - just wanted to start by saying great site! very informative!

so I've done a few recordings in the past, plugging my guitar and mic straight into the computer and using audacity and most recently garageband. Now I want to get into recordings that sound better.

I plan to use a powerbook g4 (will be running leapord on it) it will ONLY be used for recording (no other programs on it except logic pro or maybe pro tools I have no decided yet, suggestions?) I need to keep it cheap and portable I'm looking into the Behringer FCA202 F-Control FireWire Audio Interface, Behringer TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC100 Preamp, and MXL 990 Condenser Microphone with Shockmount. Eventually I will add monitors (I've looked at M-Audio StudioPro 3 Professional Desktop Audio Monitors and the M-Audio Studiophile AV 20 Monitor Speaker Pair, suggestions?)

I plan to use the condenser mic to mic my guitar amp when recording electric guitar/bass, place the mic in front of my acoustic guitar when recording that, mic overhead for recording piano and place the mic in the room for recording drums.

My questions, good enough gear to use? Suggestions for comparable gear? Will those micing techniques suffice? What kind of sound can I expect? Any other ideas to lead me in the right direction are EXTREMELY welcomed!

thanks a lot!
