Okay, here is the rundown. I am in a rock band, we've been to studios, play out often, etc.... We have top quality gear, boards, mics, EQs, Compressors..blah, blah.

Anyway, we are looking to put some ideas on PC, before we go into an actual studio to record. This will get our original music recorded for keeping, and it is cheaper than running into the studio every few months.

My PC is a PIII 600 with 128MB RAM and a SBLive Value card. I have Cakewalk Pro Audio 8. I basically need to know....HOW TO DO THIS STUFF????

I know that is a broad statement, but I'm pretty quick to learn these things, I just need a basic outline of how to hook up stuff so I don't blow it all up and how to record multi-track. Nothing Fancy.

I'm thinking Mic->Board->Line-In on Sound Card. for the hookup. Is that correct?

For instance, If I record, say, the Drums....I hook all the mics to the board, board to PC, Record a Track on Cakewalk, Then do it all again for the other instruments and Vocals, all on new tracks, then combine the tracks at the end? Am I on the right path? What about Playback & Record for the other parts, is that possible?

Nothing fancy of course, I'm not going to put this stuff on a CD to market or anything.

Where do I start? Are there any websites which cover this step-by-step?

I need some help!!!
