?? can i somehow take my tascam 488/ 8 track and my tascam 424mkIII/ 4 track and somehow sync em up and make a "488424mk3" 12 track?

i mean if i just think in terms of right field and left field mixdowns, is it a doable thing?

No, sorry.

The 488 and 424mkIII can't sync up to each other.

On the other hand, if you had a 238, 688, 644 or 134, with the ATS-500 sync unit, you could actually do it. You need a deck that will do slave sync and a synchronizer box. That sync setup also works with the TSR/MSR Series R/R decks, so the sky's the limit.

A 488 or 424mkIII could drive the sync of any of the above units, as code-only master.
