Hi

I am a solo singer looking to get some seroius recording done for my website, i have done weddings, birthdays etc but i would love to be able to send a sample off to agencies etc. Unfortunatly having a young family i have very little money to spend at a studio so the home recording is my best bet.

I already have the right space at home ready, dedicated computer and a Alan and Heath "X10" (i think) mixer with USB interface for the mics.

That is as far as i have got and need help with mics (i have an SM58??), decent software and correct techniques

Many Thanks

Steve

Techniques isn't something you can spend an hour reading up on and then be fully proffesional :P You just gotta practice, mess around with EQ, compression and reverb to start off with.

As far as the mic go, if you want decent quality pickup a condensor mic and an audio interface with phantom power. the AT2020 mic and M-audio interface would run you about $300 i think, and sounds really well, especially for that price.
Remember to get a pop filter (Google it if you don't know what it is, costs about $13) and a mic stand

I am sure i will have fun playing with the controlls, i have not purchased any software yet what would be the best one for me (with out causing an argument with other users)

Most people are going to reccomend Reaper...including me.
it's extremely cheap, works well and easy to use. you can test it for free at their website. The test version can do anything the normal version does, only difference is after 30 days you have to put up with a 5 second loading sceren when you start the software...that's about it. :P
