It's been a while since I lurked here...I wonder if anyone remembers Visual Cliff from 2002 when I first shared some tunes with you all. I look forward to getting back into this site and tap into the wellspring of talent and experience thats here. Well there has been alot more produced since 2002 and I am always up for learning how to get better at this stuff...

Since my initial batch of tunes I have upgraded the home studio with a couple nice Royer R121 mics, a Grace Preamp, Roland XR Sound Module and my new Randall RM50 amp and Line 6 Vetta II Combo. I no longer use the Johnson J-Station or Lexicon MPX G2 as my only sources for recording guitar.

I hope you all dig how far I think I have come along...Check out some new stuff via the links below and feel free to flame it up!

Best Wishes,
Rob

Here are a couple mp3s to check out...

Visual Cliff - nice recording job good song too. I like it all except the guitar sound - it's a bit generic.
Good FX, good singing & mixing - maye a few too many ideas for one song though.
Wewll done mate.

Generic in what sense? Please let me know what you think it needs! I'm hip for getting your take on it! Thanks!

I appreciate you checking them out!

Generic in that they sound like all the other metal guitars. Everyone seems to own the same pedal or plugin.
I know that the distortion effects available are appalling & that most FX units have lousy ones as well - all need tweaking. I just wish someone would listen to & try to get ideas from 70's era Slade, Kossof in Free, almost all Mick Ronson, Iommi on the 1st three Sabbath records etc. There are a million guitar sounds out there but most people seem to ,as I said, subscribe to a single sound or very slight variations of it. Hey, I know it's popular & it really pulls the metal heads ito the song BUT it points to a creative abyss when I listen.

i agree 100%. if i didnt know any better id swear it was the exact same player, guitar, and amp in every one of todays metal bands.

anyway, good job on the songs. :)

I'm recording with a Randall RM50 using the more classic preamp modules. But I here ya...seems all the dudes out there have to own a Mesa Recto. Interesting thoughts on the chunk sound as I mix the Randall with elements from class A sounds out of my Vetta II Combo. I'm not a fan of the fuzzy sound and I try to accentuate the mids more than the A-typical scooped V curve.

It's all subjective for sure!
