(Please note: I *have* posted this in the Digital Recording section as well, but also thought I *might* get better results here)

I'm in the process of taking a 10x10 bedroom in an apartment, and I'm finalizing all of the interconnects to various equipment and a homebrew PC DAW.

In this setup, I have a Tascam Portastudio 564 that works wonderfully, with one exception: I can not, for the life of me, get *any* S/PDIF output from this unit during playback of previously recorded tracks.

The maual (which I have and might just donate as a Digital Copy, since the most prevalent web searches for "Tascam Portatstudio 564" returns results of people looking for manuals) just denotes that the S/PDIF Output as follows:

DIGITAL OUTPUT JACK: Outputs the playback signal on tracks 1 and 2 in digital form (S/PDIF)

The S/PDIF output of this unit ends-up at an Creative Audigy LiveDrive in my DAW box. I am currently testing the input to the Audigy with the S/PDIF output of an old Denon CD Player with an S/PDIF output, so we're positive that it's neither the cable or the inputs, but with the output or something with the setup of the Portastudio.

If there is *anyone* who has had experience with the Tascam 564, I'd apprecate it!

Thanks!

Things to check.

Make sure you have a true SPDIF cable. I’ve heard stories that sometimes RCA cables won’t work because of the length of the center pin. Personally I’ve not had a problem.

Next make sure the receiving end of the SPDIF signal is configured to receive a 16 bit, 44.1Khz signal.

Then make sure there is something on the 564 tracks 1 & 2 and your faders are up, no mute buttons etc.

Have you been able to send digital from the 564 to a computer with a USB input? I have your same dilemma. Thanks Jeff
