Hello homerecording.com members.

I have a drum set and guitar/amp in my basement. I'd like to add a couple mics and a synthesizer and I need some advice and what else I need to get the sound out. I'd greatly appreciate any help.

I've narrowed down my syth choices to Alesis Ion, Korg MS2000 or Juno 106. What do I need to get sound from the synth and mics? Do I need a mixer and a PA? I don't need huge power, my guitar amp is a Fender Cyber Deluxe 65W and I can't turn it past about 4 without blowing the walls down. I'd be willing to spend up to about $500 (not including the synth). Thanks for any help you can provide.

do you want to record on a computer ?
and a good sound card ?
if you do heres a good set up .
amd athlon pc, powertracks multitrack software ( talk to the users
on the powertracks forum at pgmusic if you dont believe its good),
a few decent mics eg...cad, beyer. depends on your budget.
if you want a couple of cheapies try cad gxl and a sennheiser dynamic that a lot like here on the bbs.
then you need a mixer. a lot like yamaha mg series (about 120 bucks)
for plugging the mics and synths into for recording on the pc.
a good delta sound card will set you back a few hundred.
or you might try a audiophile sound card (100 bucks) or an maudio revolution , but no multiple input recording for seperate drum mics to record seperate drum tracks.
if i were you on the synth front i might consider a master kbd with no sounds and some used midi sound generating modules.
do you have monitors ? if not consider a set of yorkvilles powered
by an amplifier of some sort.
maybe this is all way beyond your budget.
a good computer alone will set you back 500 bucks.
do you have one you can use ?
it would help to know your goals , what you want to do etc.
do searches under my name. ive made loads of suggestions on this bbs in the past.
peace.

Hey, thanks a lot for the reply. I'm not trying to record now, I just want to be able to hear the sound. Do I just need a mixer and speaker? Plug the synth and mic into the mixer and then output to the speaker?

I might want to try recording later but not yet. I've got a lot of computer equipment so I don't need to worry about that expense.

synth line out then into mixer line in.
mic (3 pin xlr i'm assuming) into mixer mic input.
are the speakers powered ? if not you need something to power the speakers. what kind are they ??

Hey, thanks a lot for the help. From searching the boards here and some other places I'm thinking about getting some Event powered monitors. There are some 20/20 and ps5 on ebay. I couldn't find advice on mixers though, would you recommend some? I want to keep under $500 (used).
