I've been going to an audio engineering school for the past month or so,and i've been wondering if there's a way for me,to learn new stuff and practice on my computer.
What i thought would be really usefull would be a "studio simulator".Where you simply have a virtual studio.I searched and don't think anything like that exists,so sorry if this is stupid.
Generally what i'm most intrested about,is to learn how to use a console.Because with the limited time at school,i could really use some extra practice.
In any case, any suggestion of a programm or anything that could help me progress in my proffesion to be,would be very much appreciated.

Sorry if i posted this in the wrong section, but i couldn't find a more appropriate place to post this.

Specifically, what kind of thing are you hoping to learn?

I mean, virtually every daw is or has an emulation of a console layout.
Do you mean the physical routing etc?

I'm afraid the best way is to get hands on experience, preferably with someone who can guide you.

You say you're at an engineering school. Can you book their studios and just spend a few days footering?

Doesn't have to be a 96 channel neve. A behringer eurorack or something is still going to share a lot of the same principles.

Let me know if that's not what you meant.

Firstly thank you for taking the time to respond to me.
I happen to be greek and unfortunately my english are not very good.Especially audio engineering termology, which is completely new to me.So forgive me if i happen to missunderstand things or confuse you.
From physical routing i think you mean how to connect the equipment(console, headphones, mics e.t.c).Tbh all we've learned on this so far is to put the mic on the console.I'm not particulary intrested in this tho, cause i used to be into computers so i have a basic grasp on that.
Just 10 minutes ago i discovered this:
http ://sim-av . com/ download.html (I had to put spaces, because it won't allow me to post urls.Sorry if this is against the rules.)
This looks like exactly what i'm looking for,but it's only for macs and you need to contact them for the windows version(no idea what's up with that).I already sent an e-mail of course and hopefuly i will get it.But if you have anything like this to suggest me or anything you believe would help someone at my level would be great.
To help you uderstand my level, what we've done so far is put a mic, let's say on input 1 and send it to a group a time while listening what we're recording from mix-b(we use nuendo to record).
Just for the record,we're using eurodesk mx 9000.

About the hands on experience.I already talked with a cousin that is a proffesional musician. He is willing to help, but this have 2 problems.First of all,he's busy and can't give me so much time, and secondly.even if i get to a practice or even worse a live, the actual audio engineer won't have the time to explain everything to me or maybe not the patience.
I don't want to just learn things and just do what i see.I want to know exactly what i'm doing and why.The best way to accomplish that is by practicing as more as possible.
I hope i somewhat helped you,to help me :).Thanks again for your time.

I read the description. It's a max-msp standalone so windows versions shouldn't be a problem.

It talks about metering, routing, auxes etc etc. and to be honest it just sounds like a fake DAW.

I could be wrong, but I expect you'd get the same 'education' from reading the nuendo manual and using it for a few days.

If you don't have your own copy, download reaper and read the manual for it.

Any jobs going out there in greece?? :)

I can get nuendo from my school, but i don't have a usb stick at the moment(broke it).
I will try reaper for now and see what i can get. Thanks a lot.

EDIT:I don't think i can get what i need from reaper.I need to have a virtual console and practice what i'm learning at school on it.(like recording from groups while listening to what i'm recording from mix-b).I don't think i can do that using reason or nuendo(unless i didn't search good enough). So if you can help me out somehow i'd appreciate it.

Oh didn't even noticed he asked the first time...
If you're serious, then mainly in summer due to our high tourism on islands.

Now Liakos are interested in learning LIVE sound technique or recording of bands?

I just started getting basic audio engineering education,so i'm not sure which i will follow. There's a chance i will work at a tv station or radio.
I just want something to practice on the console. The program i gave a link to on my second post seems perfect for me,but unfortunately i still haven't gotten a reply from them.

Once you get your post count up to 10 then you can post links in your threads here. 5 more to go!

No rules broken.

You know Liakos ..... I've been blessed to be able to work in both live and in the studio all of my live and I believe that being multi talented like that will be the susses of your venture in life.

All of my teachers have done both.As said earlier,i have two more years ahead of me,so i got plenty of time to decide what i want to do exactly, and most importantly what i'm best at and suits me.
I will keep that in mind tho.

Theory and about 6-8h on the console recording with nuendo. We record either our selfs counting(111 on chanel 1,222 on chanel 2 e.t.c.) and once recorded drums. That's pretty much about it.
I will go to sleep now.I hope i will get some helpfull info tomorrow, once i'm back from school.Have a nice night.
