Newbie 34B owner - pinch roller question

I had a Sony TC788-4 back in the 70s... I still have the old tapes and just purchased a 34B from a guy in New York to remaster the original recordings and preserve them as mp3s. He said the unit had under 100 hours on it and he owned it for 12 years. It is a very clean looking unit and looks like it was cared for.The lifters and guides and heads show no appreciable shiny wear spots. The first transfers to mp3 sound great but the pinch roller was dirty and had some shiny spots and felt "gummy" to the touch and started mispositioning the tape to the heads as it slipped sometimes. I am looking for a new pinch roller... any good leads? Also what is the best solution for swabbing the dirt off of the heads and pinch roller to make them last?
UPS damaged the rear corner of the back plastic housing and foot... are there replacement covers available?

Yea it sounds like the pinch roller is shot. All of the tascam teacs that used 1/4 inch tape used the same pinch roller. Tascam should have it if not ebay is full of them. Also could be your tape is shedding and needs to be baked as old as it is.
Also If you are going to pick up a Roller you might as well get a new belt for the capstan motor as well and learn how to put that on cause its getting to the age it wont last long either.

I picked up a belt from this guy for one of my machines with no problems.

Pinch Roller Info

Thanks so much... any idea on the rear plasic cover? UPS cracked off the corner when shipping and I would like to replace it to bring the deck up to original shape. I can send along some mp3s of my old music if anyone is interested....
