first time on board. I have very basic questions on the connections I need to make it all work. I have a sound blaster Audigy platinum sound card that has rca line ins as well as 1/4 input. I am using a behringer mx2004a mixer and plan to use a mike to sing as well as mike the guitar. I have a home stereo system to monitor everything through monitor speakers. My question is how do I connect the mixer to the computer and the speakers. please be as clear and simple as possible. I am new at this and want to get it right.

Lots of different ways to do it. In my humble opinion, to get maximum sound quality, I'd do this. Now because you're using a soundblaster card, the inputs and outputs are more than likely on a stereo mini type connector so you'll need two "Y" cables; a stereo mini at one end that breaks out to two 1/4" mono phono connectors.
Drive the inputs of the sound card from the channel INSERTs found on the back of the mixer. The way this works is you have your mic plugged into channel 1. On the back of the mixer locate the insert for channel 1 and insert one of the 1/4" plus of one of your two Y cables only to the first "click", don't seat it all the way, and the other end which is the stereo mini to the LINE INPUT of the card. The other 1/4" would go to the channel insert for another mic. On the output of the card, take your remaining Y cable and run that from the LINE OUT of the card to two unused channels on the mixer. I'd run the main left/right output of the mixer to the input of your stereo as that's what you're monitoring on.
