Hi all,

I'd like to record instruments onto my laptop while on the move...

Instruments through mics - SM58/7 type and/or via lines out of amps. Laptop G4 apple mac.

The Digi Design Mbox, which comes with ProTools, is ideal (and about the right price) BUT I would like to have more than just 2 analog inputs. It's been suggested that I could use an analogue to digital converter to make us of the two digital inputs on the Mbox... Would this work?

Can you suggest any other set-ups - I'm not particularly sold on ProTools so are there any other interface/software combinations that would do the job for less?

Many thanks in advance

This would fit the bill but the interface can't be powered from a laptop, so you would need to use the wall wart power supply included. The mbox can't be powered by a laptop either, so the same would apply.

The linked unit can be daisy chained to add more inputs up to eight units for a total of sixteen inputs. Sound like you're only expecting to use two more, so you would need to buy one more unit.

This comes with good ol' Cubase. I agree about 'protools' -- ick!
