Hi, I'm kind of a new person here... I've been reading the message boards for a while, but never posted.. anyways, i've put up a 40 second clip of something ive been working on, and i'd appreciate any feedback/criticism anyone might have. Thanks in advance to anyone who listens.

Sounds good, would like to hear the whole thing though. Are there going to be lyrics, other instruments etc.?

Cool, very relaxed sounding, spacey.

Nice sound...what equipment did you use...did you play everything?...and that was a good drum sound, too.....real?.....gibs

Thanks for listening guys...
So far i havent really tried doing lyrics.. i'm not much of a vocalist :) Haven't thought too much about adding other instruments... if anyone has any ideas, i'm open to them.. as far as equipment, on the computer side i use cakewalk/sb live, and i run guitar/bass through a pod, and the drums are an alesis dm5 with a homemade remo practice pad drumkit, and i played all the instruments.. thanks again for checking it out!

rs,I'm getting the same thing that I got on Jon X's link. A white page with about 2 million characters on it. ANyone know what this is? Must be a problem on my end of things.

Here's what I can offer

I don't know how final a version this is, but it could be a little tighter. The overall mix sounds pretty good. It does need some kind of lead element, either vox or guitar or something to give it direction. Right now it's not sure where it's going. (Based on the abbreviated clip.)
Congrats on getting an actual real, original drum performance! A pretty rare thing in the world of home recording!
Can't wait to hear more.

Nice and clean recording and yeah I thought that was a real drum kit until I read your post. Finish it and put it back up rs I'd like to see where you go with it. Good work!

Super recording quality, very good mix and enjoyed the timing changes...very interesting. Did you play all the instruments and do you have any idea when a full length version will be ready?

This sounds VERY clean for your equipment. Good stuff. It definitely needs something more in the way of a lead vocal or lead instrument to pick up a melody line somewhere in there if you are going to continue the tune like this. Of course, half my stuff is still lacking that and is unfinished so what do I know. I really like when it changes around the :18 mark. Crash cymbal might be a little too loud in the mix. I was getting that really strong on the left side. You got a great start here with this one, and I'd like to hear how it turns out when finished.

To Ray j - the only thing i can think of is trying to right-click the link and go to "save link as" or holding down the shift key when you click on the link...

everyone - I will be working on finishing this up, but i think i have musical A.D.D. :) i start a song and then move on to something else before its anywhere near finished. I will post a finished version soon as its done though.

Jon X - thanks for the tip on the cymbal.. i run a stereo out from the alesis dm5, so the drum "mix" sorta has to be done on the dm5 before it gets to the computer... ive thought about recording the drum track in midi, so i can separate the tracks, and record each drum on its own track, but i am a sloppy drummer, and the drum track seems to get wacked out in midi. oh well :) (if anyone has any tips/experience with that, i'd love to hear it)

Again, thanks to all for the great comments and suggestions!

Heh, Musical A.D.D.-- I usually say the trip is more fun than any particular destination. I really liked both ideas. The shorter one's only problem is obvious :). I'd be curious to hear the longer one with a heavier feel (think Afghan Whigs, maybe) but that's just a taste issue.
