Hello.

I've never used digital recording equipment before, i've always just used an analog mixer when doing recording. I am really new to this stuff and I have a few questions..

First off, tonight I was screwing around recording some acoustic stuff and I decided to do 2 tracks, and pan one left and one right. Now, I made a new Audio track in Cubase LE (Audio_01), and set it in the VST Inputs to record off IN 1. Okay, so I recorded that, then created a new track (Audio_02), Since I used the same microphone I just set that one to record on IN 1 also. I recorded that track, and continued into the Mixer. I listened to the songs, both tracks played just fine, but when I tried to Pan one to the Left and one to the Right, only Audio_01 played, and it wasn't even panned.. Now I bought this thing like 3 days ago, and I don't really know anything about the set up or anything and if someone could help explain the Firepod / VST / Cubase for me, I would appreciate it.

Second question, I could only find the 4 band EQ in Cubase, I couldn't find anything that would expand me to a 10, or 30 band EQ. And even when I was screwing with the 4 band EQ, just like the Pan, it didn't really do anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated, please help a newbie out, haha. =)

Take care,
Adam.

It might be helpful for you to post this in the Cubase forum, where a lot of the Cubase dudes can answer your questions better.

For the EQ, you'd have to go and buy an EQ that can handle that. The free bundle that comes with those kinds of systems usually won't have an EQ that covers that many bands.

Question for you, when you panned the tracks, did you pan them in Cubase only, or just on the mixer? You'll have to do both to get them to pan right.

Thanks for the EQ question, I never knew you had to buy an EQ. I was always just used to EQ in the program after I recorded. Thanks on that one.

As far as the panned goes, as far as I know the Firepod doesn't have a thing where you can pan, it's just a 8 mic pre's, preamp / gain knobs.. I'm really not quite sure how I would do that. I was just panning them in Cubase.

I'll go post this in the Cubase forum, thank you for your time though. =)

Oh ok, I thought you were using a mixer along with it.

Don't rush out and buy a $600-$900 plug in unless you really want it. A 4 band EQ will work great.

I won't, haha. Don't have the money for that after the Firepod.

Do you have any idea why it's not panning? I really just want to be able to lay down some acoustic tracks right now, pan, and eq them.. but for some reason Cubase / Firepod is really making me frustrated. Like I said, i've never used equipment like this.

Take care,
Adam.
