I just registered a new Domain web name. I'm not sure exactly where the best place to post this, let me know please. First I'm looking for a free site that will handle it, if available? The next thing I would like to know is, if I have something (a song say or a picture) I want to copy write, Does the old send it in the mail to yourself registered really work? or do you have to register for a copy write on something?

You could point your domain to a free web-host, but would have to live with their advertising and limitations etc.

Most will not allow you to post anything other than static media (html, and images). Since direct linking is forfeited with the domain name....

Best thing to do is get on a shared-server for hosting, which, will cost you some coin in a month. But not too much.

Anymore q's, just ask.

A shared-server, I'm not sure what you mean? I know I checked out geo cites for 11.99 a month but they don't let you sell anything,If I'm reading it right. Do you mean a shared-server lets you sell your own stuff? If so do you know a good one?
Thanks.....

Flash,

I own/run hosting companies. 'Shared' just basically means that the computer your website is on, has other websites on it as well.

This cuts down on the expense of owning your own server and lines.

When you pay for 'shared' hosting, you can basically do almost anything you want, within the limitations of the server, and your bandwidth. And of course, standard law. You would not, for example, be able to host kiddie porn, etc.

Give me an idea of what you want to do exactly, and I'll throw some prices at you.

Well I'm into a little html, I've got my basic web page/pages like the main page, pics pages of guitars-amps- ect. ect. What I want to do is have a page that people can listen to streamers of a cd and buy the CD if they like it. Maybe I'd be better posting on mp3.com but I think you have to send them 1000 cd's before they agree. Plus then they get a cut also. Is this making sense so far?

Well, I checked some of it out. The ones I listened to (three on he main opening page) in my opinion S.L.S. Is there a lot of people that go to that site looking for new Or old artist with new material?

It's all independent musicians.

Majority is new material, but the odd musician does covers.

W.

I lost your train of thought on that last one. What do you mean the odd musician does covers? I was thinking you meant (old) but that still didn't make sense....

'odd musician' means technically every other one. But the slang means sometimes musicians post covers.

W.

Well, being the owner and only creator/admin, I can tell you exactly how many:

Active:
641 users
429 artists

All independents, and only independents.

W.

So basicly I would just need to copyrite my stuff and put it on there? Is there any charge?

Copyright is left up to you, but advisable. As long as you own the rights to the material, you're in the clear. Always good to protect yourself however.

Currently, I'm not charging anything, but I will of course eventually have to charge for some of the services. Extra space/bandwidth use will be at reasonable rates, etc..

You'll be allotted about 15MB for free in the future plans, or at least that's what I project. More space for more programs you participate in, etc.. Most programs are of course free as well....

Right now it's unlimitted space.

Lots of stuff going on, keep your eye on the forums there for updates.

Flash,

Nowhereradio.com is excellent. You need a place to put your tunes, and this is it. It's a great place to start. Another option is CDbaby.com, which charges a flat rate of $35 per CD. They then put up a little web page for you, and you pick up to four songs that they will upload for people to listen to (two minutes of each tune). Nowhereradio is the better deal, but CDbaby might have a higher profile. I do both.

Hey, on that CDbaby.com, you say you pay $35 per Cd! Do they sell them or do they order directly from you? If they sell them do they req. a min. # of CD's before you start.

Flash,

They sell them for you. I think postage is $2.50. When you sign up with them, they ask for five CDs (one they'll use to upload, which leaves four to sell -- something they didn't tell me upfront, but I didn't care). They let you know if they need more, and they also provide you with the email address and snail-mail address of any buyer. It's pretty nice, because there are not ties other than the $35 up front (per CD). All they ask is $4 per CD they sell, i.e. if you want to ask $9.99 per CD, they keep $4 and you get $5.99.

Thanks for the info, I'm not quite ready yet, but it's nice to know some things up front. I'll keep my eye on that site and do some more research. Any other idea's on where to put CD's would be helpful also. Thanks

I just completed 2 of the programs on NWR.

The On-Demand CD production is functional, as is the Self-Ship CD program.

You can view some information on the services page, or sign up and check out the programs in detail.

There is no upfront cost for these programs, so no risk on you part.
