we don't need rest!!
New Video thx for the time spent watching and listening.

That bridge is absolutely fabulous!!! The rest is great too, but that bridge just brought the whole song up a big notch! Good sound for a YouTube, the mix is good for me. Cool vid too - like the Marshall Cabinet on the wall :-)

Nice. I think she's has a very nice texture to her voice. Unfortunately, it gets steamrolled by the reverb and it comes off as sibilant. I think you should try a 'smoother' verb on her voice or eq the high-mids down a bit on the verb you're using.

Also, I'm curious about the distance she is standing from the RE-20. Should she not be closer? I've never used an RE-20 or SM7, so it's a genuine question. I was always under the impression that those mics sound better closer to the singer.... Someday I'll get one... :)

peace,

thanks for the comments. I do tend to use a lot of reverb. Although I've been recording for many years, I'm still amaturish with gobs of dripping, wet verb.

The RE20 works at that distance, has no real proximity effect.

However, there's a secret that she's able to get away with standing that far back. I'll mention she doesn't have on cans either (to mess with her hair!). That might be a hint.

Ha! Got me! You'd never know!

I actually had the music playing out of the monitors, which were about 8 feet in front of her. That way she could sync it up pretty decent. Looking at it after the fact, I noticed she was kinda far away too. I also thought when first recording video about holding one ear phone up, etc.. But she just started into it and I thought... ah..just forget the headphones.

Mic distance, etc.. only around here with musicians, would that stuff get noticed... love it!
