new tune. old question. How's the mix?

sorry, but i couldnt get it to play. might be a porblem on my end though.... ill try again another time.
 
the guitar in the begining is a bit to much in the left channel. its distracting that way.

the vocals are a bit too loud...and too much reverb

the drums are much too loud.



Its a good song. But I was just trying to be very critical. I could lie and say the mixing is perfect, but I dont think thats what you wanted.

good solo. :)
 
thanks for the listen Webcyan. Are you saying I should have the intro git more at center and then pan according to the rest of the mix?

Any others with a thought or suggestion?

I like this song. I would cut the mids on the vocals at 2khz by 2 or 3db, to help them sit better in the mix. The bass needs a little bosst 2db-3db 80hz-100hz. I have my Mackie HR824's hooked up to my computer, so I get a pretty good representaion of the mix. The lead may need a little boost at 1.7khhz.

This is a good song. The drums could use some bottom added too. I do not think the drums are 2 loud. You may also want to have the acoustic centered in the beginning as well, then slide it off to the left. The vocal sounds off to the left a little too much.

What kind of monitors are you using? Slap a little noise gate on the lead gtr to tame the shrills a bit. ( I'm typing as I am listening)
Overall I dig this tune. You need to hire the chics that sang on Dark Side Of the moon to get some sweet backup vocals in there!!!!

I would maybe add a touch more bass guitar, but other than that this is a real winner all around.

thanks for the listen GT. I've done a bit of remixing with the comments on the intro git placment and will dive into e.q. hell soon. Gargamel has made some solid points.
I suckat using e.q. but, here is my chance to improve.

It helps a lot when I get feedback on the song itself (i.e. is it good enough to bother with.)

I've been writting for many years and just now I can share a little and hear what strangers think. Not to mention the fact that the strangers are "in the muse" and very intelegent.

What a commodity for bedroom hacks like me.

i listened to divine world (first mix) and fearless

divine world:
musically at its best during the acoustic beginning and during the instrumentals when you have the rhythm guitar to the left, acoustic near middle, and lead hard right.

musically at it's worst with the acoustic guitar and left panned rhythm fighting for supremacy. since they are playing busily at the same time, but aren't playing the same pattern it threw me away from the vocals at times. i would suggest using sustained chording on the rhythm guitar to provide some crunch without distrating from the acoustic.

nice intro, i love the way the drums come in. the twin acoustic guitars complement each other nicely, and it shows growth compared to divine world. i like the heavy reverb (i'm a big fan of chris isaacs wicked games) it fits the nature of the tune, but then after the guitar solo, you go a little too far with it for me. what pre-delay did you use on the reverb? also, i think the distinct delays in the vocals should be lower.
also, i noticed that on the first guitar solo you pan it left, and on the second you pan it center. with the twin acoustic guitars the solo sounds nice down the middle.

I panned the solo/lead git on left and right during "fills" and down the middle during the "solo proper". I agree that it needs a less transient home and that "center" is the best real estate for the track when there are no vocals present. You've helped to make my mind up on the quandry.

The delay is Sonic Foundry. I recorded the song using Vegas.
The acoustics are a standard tuning on one side and a Nashville tuning on the other(parts and chords are the same).

I'll tame the delay towards the end and see what I think.

P.S. Divine World was the first song I've recorded on the computer and helped me learn a lot. Your sustained chord comment is oh so accurate!
