This is a cover of Wreckless Eric's "Whole Wide World".
It has that "Stiff Records" type of sound that was big in the late '70's, early '80's. Sounds like a Nick Lowe production.
I used a Studio Projects C1 and a JoeMeek VC1Q on Vocals,
bass and guitar Pods into a VC1Q on guitars and bass,
and a JoeMeek SC2.2 compressor into a RNC for the drum sub mix.
Drums are a Zoom RT-323 Drum Machine.
Recorded and mastered at home with a Yamaha MD-8 and Alesis Masterlink using Waves Q4 and L1 plug-ins during editing.
Download "Whole Wide World" from

One of my originals is there also, if you're interested.

Hope you like 'em!
Peace.

I've heard this song before, but it was also a cover. It was by a popular finnish band. In fact, up to this point, I didn't even know it was a cover. Thanks for the info :) This song is strangely infectious, despite in only having TWO CHORDS! I like the 70's guitar sound. The drums are little too powerful for this song. They sound too modern :) The drum programming sounds too programmed, and it becomes more evident because of the bad choice of the drumkit. I'd try some smoother kit. The drums are really my main problem with the mix, but I'm sometimes a bit too analytic on drum mixing (and I'm not even a drummer).

And... As a bonus, I'm commenting on your own song also:

The drums fit this song a little better. There's plenty of tom stuff here, which is nice, but there's too much of it. I'd cut back a little of the toms here and there. The mixing is pretty good otherwise. The song is pretty decent upbeat rock. Not exactly my type usually, but I do like to hear this kinda stuff sometimes. The quick vocal bends at the start of each "My..." is a good idea. I think you missed a few, but did well on the vocals overall.

I like the production, not a big fan of pop however  ... and you've obviously got plenty of talent.

Your vocals are the best part, very nice mic work and your singing is better than most. Like the last post suggests, the drums seem to detract a bit, but I think the main concern for me is "why, out of all the music ever recorded, did you choose this?" Guitars were a bit soft for my taste, I only play clean when I have to, otherwise it's my marshall petal straight in :p

Your solo song wasn't bad, but again, that whole pop thing...

Tom Petty vocal sounding...

with loud drums

I think you need to be a little more creative musically however to make this more a tune (as agreeing with the crankster comments on the two chord dealie...)

I really like the song -- I like Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello, etc... You do a nice job w/this cover. Very raw, not over-produced. My kind of music!!!

I'm wondering if a little bit of distortion on the rhythm guitar would add a certain fullness to the song. Maybe?

Anyhow, great tune!!!

:D

HOLY SHIT!!!

I just listened to "So Long" -- I saw the title, and thought, "I wonder if this is the song by Fischer Z. Nah, probably not..."

Lo and be-fucking-hold, it is. Great cover, great choice...

When you sing "somewhere living in France," there could be more of the original's drawl -- but those were distinctly Aussie. Hard to duplicate, I'm sure.

The echo on the rhythm git at 2:40 could have more sustain. As I remember, the original was fuller -- were there keys in that?

Thanks for sharing and keep covering those little-known pop tunes!!! They sure are beauties.

Ah, the other side of the 80's... no Pat Benatar, no Styx (blech!), no Foreigner...just good, pure pop.

Thanx!!!

I just posted a remix of So Long at the same address, if your interested.
Peace.
