Is this R & B?

Maybe I am not as hip as I should be?

The track sounds distorted in both the low end and in the vocal ranges.

I don't know if this is just an MP3 transfer issue or if it was a tracking issue but it doesn't sound right.

The vocals are good for the most part but there are some spots where the female vocalist is almost stumbling over some of the lyrics and they are not flowing as smoothly as the genre would demand. There also could be some additional compression on her voice as her level seems to fluctuate a bit much.

The Male rapper/singer is better at his craft and his levels are more stable.

How was this music created?

Is it a keyboard generated affair where you can go back and tweak things or, is it sampled loops that are what they are?

If they are editable midi tracks or real tape or computer tracks some smoothing of the instruments is in order too.

Cheers! :)

the vocal range distortion is when she gets real loud?

the only thing that is what it is so to speak is the melody..horns strings bass

Hey man,
How goes it?

Sounds like that Christina tune....

The beat goes off at places not in a good way either...
needs a steadier kick throughout...
bass sounds pretty good
The rest of the instruments sound super canned...all MIDI?

The lyrics are good...I like them...
The vox meter is rushed at points as "The Ghost" mentions...also sounds like she is in and out of the mic.....could use a de-ess too....
The harmony vox at the beginning is dynamic but fluctuates in levels as well...

I would call this Hip Hop more than R&B but, hey...it's what is hot right now...
You are definitely on the right track man...

yea all midi...the beat doesn't fall off....

Sorry man,
I do like the tune...it is modern and commercial...
these are not bad things to me...
What I meant was that some of the fills throw me off...
0:25-0:28 and 1:45-1:47......in time but not in the groove with the rest of the tune.
The groove from 1:30 to 1:42 is excellent...
I brought this in to CEP because I thought it was a little hot and there is some clipping...
I think it is the bass but, hey that's cool...
I tried a vox boost...a small overall curve in EQ from 1hz-4hz brought out the gals voice a little bit more...

Good luck with your tune man,
Joe

Teacher,

I'll leave the technical mix stuff to the people that actually know how to mix, but I dig the song. The song is right in the genre that's hot now, she's also singing about topics that seem to be in that genre now, her voice is cool, and I like the sound overall.

Not going to help you much, but I wanted to say I likey.

hey if you got $1000 for the studio time and an engineer i'm down to do that..until that i have to do my best....

uh.... teacher?? that wasn't a knock on you, it was a "self-depracating" comment

she was referring to her own mixing skills

man, is it just me or people are getting more critical over here?
i definitelu dig the fills on the drum, it's good to hear something not so standard in hip hop/r&b songs(btw, I find this more on the R&B side). The bass is definitely good, mind sharing what synth/sample you used for this? The female vocal jumps out on a few spots, some minor compression perhaps?

btw, thanks for getting back to my PM.

take care

I could be way wrong.....

but, I thought that is what we were supposed to be......

somebody clue me in here...OK?

I just took a listen..

hmm.. i have heard a few cuts from you teach..

those sampled horns? in the background by the end were becoming obvious. Maybe switch em up at some point? I liked the guys raps at the end (even though he was talking bout sinning  j/k) , he was stronger than the girls stuff, he should make an earlier appearance.

i thought more compression would of made the voice sound to closed...i'm prolly gonna split the real loud parts from the soft parts and just lower the volume of the loud parts...yea the subbass is a lil bit too much...thanks for the help guys...

the whole melody is a sample...if i cut the horns i cut everything besides the drums sub bass, hi hats and the sprinkly noise for the hook...
