I spend a lot of time in the studio editing tracks and this task doesn't require any of the studio goodies (mics, preamps and such). Since my girlfriend is recovering for surgery and I need to be around to take care of her, I picked up a laptop so I can work upstairs. It's a compaq 700MHz PIII, 256megs, DVD and an OK soundcard. This thing is neater than shit. Hell, I'm taking this thing to work. Getting paid at the day job to tweek tracks from home sounds like poetic justice to me (but this mouse button thing is taking some getting used to).:D :D :D

this mouse button thing

I'm guessing you've got what I call "the nub" as a pointing device. I hate them. Just get a PS/2 or USB mouse and use that.

This is so fucking cool it hurts. I'm setting here in bed with the little woman, surfing the web, chattin on the BBS, working on a tune in Cakewalk. If these things could just muster a little more horse power they could take over the world!

I get fatuiged useing laptops too damn quick. My eyes hurt, the keyboards are tough to use and all integrated mice suck. Other than that excellent when away from the box.

The mouse being a little button in the middle of the keyboard is a pain but I'm getting used to it. It'll never replace the HAL 9000 downstairs in the studio but of course it's a hell of a lot harder to lay in bed with that big sonofabitch in your lap. :D :D :D

I use a laptop at school (I'm a teacher) to put down ideas when I get inspired at work. Works killer.
