New to this (HELP!!!)

I dont want anything big not trying to start something Garth Brooks would come to, just for me. Maybe do some demos of the band to give out or sell but i want to record my own songs and i dont want it to sound like crap pluss i like to play with stuff like this, so i guess what im looking for is some kind of map like this goes here and that goes there kinda thing. i have all the PA equipment one would need and a spare computer im going to rebuild. just looking for some pointers on how to build it and how to put them together as cheeply as i can im going to buy a sound blaster sound card but what else do i need help!!!!!

To start from scratch in the world of any kind of recording is a tough row to hoe, but to try to jump in feet first to the world of computer recording is almost suicidal.

If you want to get a quality demo made spend the money you woulda spent on home recording gear on a day or two in a small studio in your area. Having your songs well rehearsed and any overdubs planned out in advance will make sure that you're holding up your end of the load so's you can let someone a few years further on push the buttons and twiddle the knobs.
