Hey guys (and girls),

I've got a few questions. I'm seriously consideirng buying the MR-8. But I dont completely understand the whole thing. I know alot about track recording and the MR-8 seems like a decent recorder with a VERY user friendly interface. BUT... But what kind of mastering and "mixdown" software do you recomend? Does it come with anything (software wise)? And I know it has a on-board mix-down option, but does it "mix down" to a .WAV file? Or an .mp3 file? THANKS. I might have more questions, but thats all for now.

If you master and mix onto the MR 8, you don't need any thing else, software wise, though using your computer has it's advantages. As far as what you end up with, it's an uncompressed .wav file.
Welcome to our world! I really think the MR 8 is a real blast to use!

I either use my MR-8 to mix down to a stereo wav file (which I send to PC via USB cable) or lately i have been sending all of my MR-8 tracks to the PC seperately to mix and master on a program called Cakewalk:Clubtracks. I got that program from musician's friend for 10.00US . Lovin it.

dan!

You would treat it like any other .wav file, burn it as a .wav, encode it to an mp3, and then burn it on to a cd, heck, you could encode it to a real player file, it's just you start out with the best possible sounding file, as a .wav.

yes, once it's on your machine as a wav you can encode it to mp3 or burn it. But the software you can do that with does not come with the MR8

Thanks.

I can get this free software from the FOSTEX site? j/w. :-)

thanks guys!

You'll find tons here, it's a popular place for the MR-8.
also some stuff on this thread: MR-8 Users and Examples/Samples

It's a ton of easy fun, but difinitely closely tied to PC.
