Been recording on Cool Edit Pro for the past nine years and recently switched over to Logic since the girlfriend purchased an iMac. I just can not seem to understand how to mix my songs proper in Logic. I keep getting various ways to mix, some friends say plug-ins, others say the presets. But Have not been able to figure out which would be the route to go. What would you suggest?

I have not worked with Logic, but I have worked with multiple DAW's (Cool Edit, Audition, Pro Tools) However, among all the DAW's, mixing never changes. The DAW should not really change the "way" you mix. Sure different DAW's will have different plugs or inserts, but EQ is EQ, Compression is Compression and Faders are Faders. They may "look" different, but the concept behind them is always the same.

I would suggest checking out youtube. It is always loaded with tutorials on software so you can find where all the inserts, plugs, etc. that you want for your mix are located. If your not sure how or when to use plugins, inserts, effects, etc, or are not sure the difference between what they are, I would strongly recommend getting some books.

What about the new software are you curious about? What mixing help do you need?

Hey Charliedotrose,

About two years ago my fiance suprised me with an iMac and Logic Pro. It was a nail bitting episode for me to say the least. I'd like to say that given the learning curve it was the best gift anybody has ever given me. It has opened up so many possibilities I have lost count. It has also forced many "light bulbs" per say to light up in relevance to music production and recording. It took me along time to understand headroom and recording techniques.

I would recommend if you can, signing up for One to One training. While all Apple stores are different I got a whole year with a degreed sound engineer who works for Apple as a Trainer. It was the best year of my musical life. If you have any questions, I'm not a pro but I have learned a few things the hard way with Logic.

Good luck with it man, you'll love it once you become comfortable.

I was trying to mix better just tog et a smoother sound, a more professional sound. Now my mic has a hollow sound to it, as if there are two mics picking up the vocals. I thought it may be broken, but I never move the mic. Has anyone had that happen? The hollow sound is like ur standing far from ur mic and rhyming, the other way to describe it. Been working on fixing this for the last three days.
