Hello everyone !!!

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

I am 23 years old, and I have dreamed for years of having my own indie label and project studio.

I have one question.

I remember back in high school, everyone and their great grandmother swore that SCSI was the cream of the crop for DAW data. I remember spending hours studying the differences between UW Level 2's and specs on mother boards and RPM's . Everyone who I talked to at Sweetwater and Sound Chaser were nothing but Glyph-whores. :D

Then, I figured, "Why the hell should I waste my time on SCSI when there is Firewire ? "

It was still slowly getting off the ground, and of course, still very expensive.

I was advised against USB because I read it was too slow for digital, and really should only be used for MIDI and other general consumer-based comp peripherals.

Well, now that the laptop trend is finally becoming more common place,
I still want to know if Firewire is definitely still a viable option.

And regarding manufacturers, I have been looking mostly at PreSonus,
M-Audio, and Digidesign.

Any testimonials or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if any of you are on MySpace and would like to drop me a line, here is my address :

If you're using a laptop, definitely firewire over usb.

However unless you need the portability, a desktop daw is still the way to go & most people now use sata drives, a lot cheaper than scsi, tand the speed difference is neither here nor there

SCSI used to be the king for everything audio and video. The technology has progressed and nowdays a IDE or SATA hard drive is perfectly capable for audio and video.

Second Bulls Hit point about portability. Laptops are worth the extra $$ if you need to record on location or away from your studio. Otherwise Desktop recording rigs are the go.
