Hey guys,

I'm very into analog recording and have been working with digital for a number of years now but continuously here about the benefits of analog recording and really would love to get into it. I'm just very new to the subject and would love any info you can give me about what equipment to get. I'm looking to get a 4-8 track, preferably 8. I need mics, pres, ect. ect. ect. and anything that you suggest. Like I said, I'm new to it but very excited about it all. Advice? Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the bbs and be prepared for virtual crack which we know as analog.:D

First, I would scour the "analog only" forum and so some searching on Google, for starters. Analog books are all but extinct, unless you find some at garage sales or something. The guys in here (myself excluded of course:p) are freakin' geniuses on the topic of analog equipment and methods of getting the best results.

The guys in the 'microphone" section are pretty knowledgeable as well and should be able to give you some good tips and suggestions.

There is alot of info already in here to answer some of your questions I'm sure. I've tried my best to learn all I can in the last year or so and I'm still just scratching the surface of this analog realm.

Welcome to the addiction my man.;)

imtheeasykilll,

First off, look at LOCAL buys ONLY at least so that you start off on the right foot. Later on you can experiment but for now local is your best friend. (Don't think of having something shipped, at least until you know what the deal is and view all the links below).

Some (popular) 4 - 8 track recorders to look for, condition being most important (in no particular order): TASCAM 22-4, 34, 34B, 44, 38, 48, 58, TSR-8, TASCAM 388 (all in one unit), TEAC 3440, TEAC 80-8.

Mixers: TASCAM M-30, M-35, M106, M208, M216, M308, M312, M320, TEAC 2A

There's also cassette recorders (4 - 8) like the TASCAM 244, 246, 234, 238, 688, 424, 414 etc....... and also Fostex and Otari recorders. There may be good, low use examples in your area so keep an eye out for those.
