Run Away (w/o drums): Bass is domineering, maybe drop it a couple of notches...

Just Passing Through: That reverb doesn't feel right for the vocals... maybe less total reverb time, maybe a different approach altogether (you got a great message, SHOUT it in a retake?). If you DO want to use that reverb for your vocals, then add a bit to the guitar and drums (match your aural stage)...

Draw Me Closer: Yeah, I can dig it (even though that's one of my hooks, I'll send you it sometime, you won't believe the similarity). Those backups could drop a bit, maybe roll off some low-mids and lows. The stumble at the beginning with the kick can be cut-and-pasted to fit the beat there. Actually, listening to it more, it seems the drums are a bit sluggish (the "swing" sounds too calculated), might wanna retrack'em for the swing you're lookin' for...

heck, i dunno. I have a hard time critiquing music that spreads the word, 'cuz it's inherently perfect the first time, you know?

I'm listening to Passing Through
I love the guitar (almost reminds me of the Meat Puppets), but the drums don't sit right, both in the mix and my stomach. I think they're too loud, and don't like the playing, but the drums have already been discussed, and I'm a drum fucker anyway, so...

Maybe steal some of the vocal reverb and give it to the tambourine? By the way, what mic was used for the vocals?

thanks for listening, guys.

Kelly- I really appreciate it. I am in process of putting a real reverb on the vocals rather than a plug in. Seems like even my cheapie Alesis unit sounds better than the plug-in reverbs. And yes, I am really wanting to re-take the drums before I release this thing on plastic. I have better gear now, and I think a better drummer :). I'll have to hear your song:). You know, most of the time I think there are so many songs out there that it's impossible to write one that is totally unique. (Unless you're Drstawl, that is)

Vurt- On that song specifically, I used an SM-57! Ha! It's the only one though. No EQ on it, either. Through an ART TubePac.

All of your comments have really helped. I'm hoping to have a 5 song EP to sell at shows and these are the start of it.

Hi H2H,
Nice song. I actually liked the version without drums better. You've got a nice voice, and you can hear it and the harmony better in that version. The banjo is great. My main criticism would be the timing problems, but you said you did everything in 1-2 takes, so in that case it's pretty good!
