Hi everyone,
I am new to this. Is there an "all in one" studio component I can buy rather than a lot of the equipment the net says I need?
Thanks,
Gary

What, does the "net" say you need? You can break it down (and I am going to be stupid simple here)...You need as a minimum....

Means to "gather" signals, usually a microphone.
A recording device of some sort. If that means computer recording that breaks down further into the PC and an Audio Interface.

Then you need a means to listen to both the live and recorded sounds, often both at the same time. Best done on quality monitor speakers but you can start on headphones.

Last but not by any means least, a room in which to record/listen.

Cash is usually an issue with noobs so I would say that assuming you have a PC (and almost anything under 3 years old will do, this P4 is 7 and works fine) you are looking at £250 excluding monitors. VERY roughly, £100 mic £200 AI and the rest for oddsods such as cables and stands. Headphones you might have but Sennheiser HD202s 15quid are very acceptable.

Dave.

And don't (I'm sure you wont) go down to 'pirate everything' road. It will make you look unprofessional if you do.

Or maybe you want a stand-alone recorder. You'll still need input devices (mics, instruments) and a way to hear everything (monitors, headphones).
