Just added a few new songs on soundclick... I've gotten real mixed reactions on them so far, some think they are hot, other think they need some work... personally, I think they are average... anyway, Im really needin some feedback so anything would be appreciated... be harsh if you have to, just want honest opinions...

one more thing, when I upload songs on soundclick they lose a lot of quality.. anyone know how to prevent this?

listening now....your link doesn't work so I had to go to www.soundclick.com/diffusion

"Last Dayz" This is the track I'm feeling the most. The beat and the lyrics mesh well together.

On "Light It Up" (the original and the remix) which verse are you on? Both emcees sound like they need to feel what they're rapping about. Put some emotion in there. Also, there's something that's missing in the hook. "We got the gas to light the flame (light it up)" just seems like something's missing there.

On "Prophecy", I've seen so many cats ride the Hail Mary beat (including myself), it's been overdone. I don't see the direction of the lyrics though, that could just be me. Also, I don't see any emotion on that and that beat needs emotion.

I feel you man... "Last Dayz" was my favorite track too... prolly the only one I am really proud of actually... On "Light It Up Remix" I am on the first verse. As far as the hook, yeah, we made that up on the spot so its nothing special. "Prophecy" was prolly the track I least liked... It wasn't really supposed to be obvious what we were tryin to get through.. on that we were trying to do a song that would have a message to it but you have to listen real hard to understand it... either way, I dont feel it turned out right at all... Im having real difficulty with the emotion thing though... I understand what your sayin but I just cant seem to do it.... everytime I try to put emotion into it I keep hearing it needs more emotion. any tips?
anyway, thanks for the input... Im'a keep workin on it...

anyone else? C'mon I got like 30 plays and only 2 responses...

"The suns I see don't please much
I gotta swallow my food carefully whenever i eat lunch"

-Last Dayz, by far my favorite

What a winner. did i get the first part right? unique. You really seem to have your message and lyrics down, but the delivery is lacking that punch that the rest of the track has. Maybe its the acoustics. But you are doing a real good job, definitely keep it up, and try to mix up the drum patterns just to keep the listener on their feet. Overall, you are doing a really good job in my opinion (except for that first verse in Light It Up, that one confused me because it sounded so out of place. Know what i mean?)

Yo Diff... How are you counting plays??? I haven't seen a way to do that in SC...

As far as the songs go... I can't hear hardly anthing on these work speakers.. I'll try'n holla back from the pad....

Those who posted above about Last Days were right. This is the best track. It sounds like the production or recording style was different (less reverb, more centered) than the others... AKA more direct... That's a big help.. Keep goin' on that style...

The lyric writing would be better suited to someone who is emotional.. Nas rapped about watchin' Ghandi and then writing... You should find something motivating to watch, do, etc. before doin' a vocal track. Like a huddle in sports or something.. GET PUMPED UP!!! Listen to Pac.. He sounds like he's just been chased by a rabid pack of dogs (most of the time)..

Good luck...

P.S. Don't do on songs that you intend to release (cause they'll sound REALLY REALLY rehearsed) but when you have practice sessions for your rapping (which everyone does or should do prolly) slow the tempo down and freestyle... Then up it 5 bpm and go again... On and on....

I learned listening to early Jay-Z freestyles that the key to his delivery and craftiness lies in the fact that he first mastered his rapid-fire game. After he got that down, he slowed down the flows and his mind was light years ahead of it because it was used to rapid-fire...

Just a thought....Stay up!

Your energy doesn't match the tracks, which I'm feeling by the way.

When you're recording do you read of the paper, or do you recite them from memory? If you're reading, it definitely shows. When I record groups I work with, and really care about, I make them memorize thier lyrics so they can use different voice inflections, while recording rather than having to worry about reading every line correctly.

thanks ya'll for the feedback... yeah when im recording i usually read off the paper, but I guess I'ma try to recite my lyrics... I think another factor why I have trouble putting emotion into it is that I usually write lyrics first then find a beat to go with it, as opposed to writing to a beat... I think if I start writing to a beat I can match the emotion better and craft my lyrics around the beat ya know? What do ya'll do when writing songs? Do you write to a beat ALL the time or do you ever write first then find a beat to match? What do ya'll do before recording to get in the mood?

well I know some of the artist that I have recorded do different things...

some write to the beat..some have stuff wrote already..but change some stuff up to match the beat...

others just have their verses in their head and can put it on anything..

everyone is different...

some can read if off the paper and it sound like they wasnt reading it at all..so just got that memory to do it..

Like Bknot said there's a lot of different ways to do it....I would suggest for you to write to the beats, and then don't record them until you memorized them forwards and backwards..It'll improve your flow exponentialy (look at me using big words) :)
