wow its been a long time guys, heck some of you probalbly dont even remember me lol. anyway i had my operation done on my carpal tunnel and ive gotten about 70 percent usage outta my hand now and i decided i would upload some of my new projects to be listenend to and get some opinions. ive bought tons of new equipment and i feel pretty goos about the results im getting now. im working on a instrumental albumn guitar mainly of course and this was my first song for it, im also playing in a christian metal band now to and im a born again christian. but anyway please give the song a listen to and let me know what you think of the song and the mix. the song is called ice blue#52, there are two ice blue songs on there make sure you go to the ice blue#52 song and not just the ice blue song. thanks ahead of time guys missed you all and glad to be back. tim pate http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1751&alid=-1

heyhey

wow Flash. The drums are nasty. Tight and dry. Up in your face. I dig it.

the main guitar line is very good. Soaked in verb. Everything's coming through clean on my speaks and I'm digging it. Your rhythm guit.(or maybe it's keys) is sounding a little too midi-ish. Too exact.

Actually, now that I'm looking for something useful to say, I will add that the verb on the guit and the dryness of the drums gives it a little of the old "people playing in different rooms" feel. Just something to think about.

Good effort. I'm glad to hear the carpal didn't get you down. Surgery sucks.

damn, I dig the drum fill at the end too. It panned nicely at the end. good mix on that front.

You have been busy ! congradulations brother.

Had a quick listen to ice blue.... very tasteful mood music. I can hear this playing in the background of some classy restraunt. A long way from christain metal ? Sound similar to an australian artist "Tommy Emanuel".

Technically the levels were really low and you have an overabundance of high frequencies... together with the bright verb the whole things sounding a bit like your in a glass house (or maybe ice house ?). Perhaps this is the effect you were after ? ... actually I don't mind the piezo pickup sound on the lead stuff... but I think the rhythm guitar would benefit enormously from being mic'd.

Good stuff

thanks for the listen

thanks guys for the listen and the encouraging words, yes my surgery was very rough and it took alot of work to get my fingers to respond again, the feeling of numbness is still there a little bit but is much better now. again i would like to remind people make sure you are listening to ice blue#52 not ice blue. ice blue is a older song or should a say a different version of the song. i am mixing down through my seinheiser headphones for now because my new reference monitors didnt hold up very long, i bought a set of the maudios and had to send them in for warranty work after 2 days of use and this song was mixed using headphones only. thanks for the comments all.

OOPs sorry flash ... yep nobrain here listened to "ice blue"

yep.. much better, tight drums indeed ... but sound a little too loud ... distracts from the excellent guitar solo stuff. IMHO perhaps the drums themselves could have more verb too so they're not so in-your-face... the hi-hat gets a bit much at close range ...besides, the guitar's what it's all about anyway ? ;)

Unplug the drummer and let him wind down at the end eh ;)
sounds like fun.

cheers

so what did they do, replace your fingers with bionic ones? damn, that is some fine guitar playing. that's gotta be a difficult thing to go through, being such a fine guitar player. glad to have you back!

i like those drums, and i like them dry like that. they might be just a tad too loud though. are they loops, perhaps?

thanks

wow thanks fpr the great comments,i wish the woulda replaced my fingers like 2 years ago when i had my first surgery lol. i have more songs to upload so ill post them as soon as there up, including songs from my new christian metal band zion, and some more instrumentals much different than this one, my next one is styled after marty friedman considering he is one of my many favs. thanks so much guys im glad you enjoyed. dial up modems stink so bad lol. tim pate

I remember you, and I am glad to hear that the operation went well. Congrats on your rebirth as well. I was saved earlier this year and it is always great to welcome someone to the kingdom. God bless. Fantastic stuff I am speechless, great doctor, but then again you do have the great physician on your side!!!
I would like to know the equipment that you used to track this because it sounds great to me!!!

the king

i listened to your new blues tune as well and realy enjoyed the song, your vox are amazing , i will be posting some stuff with vox realy soon but i must warn you my band im in is very heavy, i wouldnt say death metal heavy but our music is similar to disturded but the lyrics praise our lord jesus, im not a great singer and the stuff im gonna post is my first attempt to singing anything seriously but i know that anything is possible through our lord, as far as equipment goes, i now have a audiophile 10/10 sound card, i used my awesome j-station to generate the guitar tones, and the drums came from drag and drop drummer lite, the bass sounds came from my roland keyboard and it was all tracked in sonar 2.0 xl and compressed with timeworks compreesor x. i didnt eq this mix i was happy with the dry sound for some reason it had the effect i was trying to achieve, i have a whole instrumental albumn im recording calleded guitarmageddon and each song is based on my favorite guitarist and influences, this one was joe satriani, ive done one for marty friedman, george lynch, working on steve vai, eric johnson, and of course eddie van halen, and theres a few more like stevie ray, and of course carlos santana. ill keep posting as i can but i have dial up for now and its so slow lol. oh yes and before i forget i also gott a chance to finnally use the reverse effect in sonar, i used it wright at the begging when the lead first comes in. its good to be back guys and i thank all those who responded to this,i will be at 100 percent again soon im taking physical therapy plus alot of prayer going out for me. thanks again elvis good to hear from you. tim pate

hey i remember you too glad to hear the operation was a success..so judgin from the playin on here .maybe i need alittle of that there carpal tunnel myself...if this is you after freakin hand surgery...im screwed.....lol...very cool tho..back when i played mostly drums and that "surfin with the alien " came out my old guitar player learned that whole album pretty damn close too..and i never appreciated it until later when i took up guitar ..and i will say of all the "guitar virtuosos"..satriani is prob my favorite ..he seems the most well like a guy who wouldnt seem pretentious in person ....im sure he is..lol..but he seems to be the most "normal " ....

nice work

Congratulations on you triumphant return.I (and the Lord now,I guess) welcome you back.(even though I didn't know you before)i'd like to congratulate you on a most successfull surgery, now about the mix-bring up those leads man or lower the drums, but better to bring up the leads.Groovey tune man,Keep it rockin for the good Lord

I enjoyed the theme of that tune. The lead guitar tone was very authorative and bold, I like the reverb bloom on it. All the levels could be substantialy hotter. The drummer needs moving back a little in the mix with a little more crisp on the set. The rythym is cool but having it big and fat stereo would be a plus. Could make a nice presentation with that one. bass could get some level and it`d be pumpin. I like it, good pickin dude.

ditto all the comments about the levels being off.. nice guitar playing! I like the drums too..

your a better guitarist than myself, but there are a few spots that sounded out..

needs more bass and guitar volume in the mix..

cool solo song!

wow now this is a complement, i have have heard your stuff sabbath and wow for you to say that im a better guitarist than you,i dont know about that but i do appreciate the extreme complement. my biggest problem like i said with the levels is that im mixing down using headphones because my m-audio monitors are getting warranty work done on them. although i do like my drums to hit hard and be more in the front of the mix volume wise. i am using drag and drop drummer for drums and after i drag my track out and finish adding fills and such i clone the track and pan one left and one right, and i guess my question is how does this sound to you guys with good monitors?i listened to it on my home stereo and it sounds realy good on that the levels sound pretty even,i do the live sound ixing for my band and this is the sound i shoot for live if possible. thanks guys for all the listens. tim pate
