cool kick drum. nice and powerful
THe guitar sounds good too.

The vocals sounded kind of unreal to me. I think it boils down to the choice of effects.

I'm not sure, but I think I could hear some distortion from too much limiting. The flip side is that the recording is nice and loud.

peace

norm55...thanks for taking the time and for the coment, means alot.

CyanJaguar...Thanks man,,yeah I really think the whole track is kinda distorted a bit, maybe due to the art tube pre. I used it to track everything. I'm sure I'll retrack some things in the future on this tune and remix it when I get my 20/20's going again. Should of tried to of fixed all the bad stuff before posting it but........

Thanks man

What CJ said - the whole track felt THICK, like the music was coming outta a heavy fog. There was definitely some distortion on the hits between 45 and 60 seconds, less in other places

On the positive side, you have a nice country voice, in my opinion and the song structure was good

Hey thanks for listening OldGrover, wished I could of spent more time on the mix, but with one monitor going it was hard to tell anything:D . I had three guitars on this and I think alot of the "THICK" sound may of come from that...same "tone" on two of them and way too much distortion on the guitars overall.

I get to record about once a week and try and mix within that 6or8 hrs I'm out there so it's very hard to get good results (for me anyway) with that kind of time frame. Thanks bro...

Wow David,Very impressive!!I'm not really into Southern Rock,but I guess it's
really just Metals redneck cousin!Very well played and recorded imo! What kind of
setup did you record with?
By the way, there's no such thing as too much distortion on a guitar!

Really fuckin good!! Performance is great all around. Great playing, great singing. Hints of Black Crowes in the there. Drums are solid, snare sounds great. I like the sort of start/stop thing. The only thing that I sort of don't like, and this might be MP3 encoding or whatever, but it sounds like there might be chorus on the guitar, and I personally don't like chorus. You might wanna replace the Art tube pre. Maybe check out the Peavey VMP2. Supposed to be a "real" tube preamp, really good, and relatively cheap (around $600 or $700 for 2 channels). I want to get one.

Solid rock n roll!!!

beezelbubba..."southern rock" metals redneck cousin..hehe! yeah I never looked at it that way but that sounds about right:D Guess I'm showing my real colors here eh? Got a line in that song that say's "bury my truck in a swamp mud hole" hell I don't even own a damn truck lol! Wrote that song about a dear friend of mine and it pretty much sums him up, if you can get past the R/N he's a really great guy. As far as recording I'm using adat,mackie1604,art pres, lexicon and alesis verbs, composer pro compressor, a/t 40/50 mic and 20/20's...kind of a small modest setup but I should be getting a better sound that I'm getting. Not spending enough time in the tracking stage is my main downfall I think. Hey I tried to listen to your other tunes and my player keeps givin me an error of some sort, I'm going to d/l another player and check-em out...thanks bro

macle...thanks for the kind words bro. Yeah the guitars had a hint of chours on them but not as much as you hear on the mp3 encoding...i dunno whats up with that. I personally dont like chours either (mabey on acoustic guitar) but I was trying to give two of the guitars a little seperation with out any luck I might add. Yeah I would love to be able to get a better preamp than the art..I'm getting a hotter signal with it than the mackie but seems like I'm having to add to much...as sonus say's "sizzle" to the track and the overall sound seems to be well distorted some what. Have you heard or used the Peavey tube pre? Huh.. I got a bud that works for them just up the road and he can like buy something at 40% off I think. Have you seen any reviews on it? if so where? I've owned alot of their gear in the past thirty yrs and well..."hated it" but some of their amps that their making these day's sound pretty decent. Thanks for the input bro..

The VMP2 gets mentioned alot on rec.audio.pro and this board, too. I saw a review of it a while back (don't remember where)which gave it a big thumbs up. I haven't heard it myself though. Still, anytime I see it mentioned, people say it's really good, and way above the usual Peavey reputation (I usually hate Peavey, too. I had a Peavey bass amp once, and it was an unbelievable piece o' shit!). Supposedly, the VMP2 is designed the way a tube preamp is supposed to be designed, has 2 channels and EQ, and is relatively inexpensive. Worth checking out, anyway.

Steve Earle fan? Nice song. The world could use more southern rock.

I haven't been on this forum much, but aside from the levels overrunning all over the place, this is one of the best mixes I've d/led yet. Everything sits in really well, like on a pro CD. Not sure, maybe vocals stand out a little too much in places.

Is it skillful use of compression? The mic or pres? Quality reverbs? Skillful mixing? I'd like to know cuz this is how I'd like my music to sound.

How/with what did you record guitars?

I'd love to hear this when the levels are corrected, even if I have to endure another 20 minute d/l!

That was a really great song! I could hear some cracks and pops in the recording, but overall I enjoyed the song.

macle...thanks for the head's up on the VMP2, I'll check it out real soon.

ap...thanks for the kind words man. You like this mix? Man I blew a monitor just trying to set levels to this mix, I really thought/think that it's...Godawful:D as far as compression, just on vocals and bass guitar in the tracking stage, and my ears for the most part, pretty much low end gear as well. But glad you liked it. On two of the guitars, just a 57 up close to the grill, running thru an art pre to adat. On the lead guitar, 57 up close with an A/T 40/50 pointing down at the back of the combo amp...that's pretty much it. I played around with it last night, and took out alot of the effects, and I think it's going to be much better now, I;ll try and post it again in the future when I get my 20/20's going again. Thank's a bunch man...

langleyt...Thanks! I couldn't hear the pop's, but that dosen't mean their not there. Did you D/L or stream? Might be the stream, I dunno. Anyway thanks for your time!

Yep, me dummy. I listened to the song lo-fi the first time then i downloaded it and no cracks or pops. It really is a great song, keep up the good work!

Wow, you went back and D/L the tune just to be sure? Thank you very much, I'll be looking for you in the Clinic when you post a tune. Thanks langleyt...

I tried d/ling this a couple of days ago and it cut out a bit into it, but what I did hear sounded really powerful, at least that's the impression that was left on me. I'll try and get it all tomorrow.

Good job David.
I thought from the intro it sounded like Bad Company's "Simple Man" and was surprised to hear it go into kind of a Skynard / Earlie flavor.

Well done.

Well...I'm busted now! Yep, Simple Man by Bad Co. kind of comes to mind at the intro I guess...but they gave so much to me, guess I was just paying them back in my own way:D . Same goes with Skynard, but I really haven't listened to much Steve earl...but I dig him just the same. Thanks getuhgrip..

Wow.... sounds great.. Maybe mixed a little to hot overall, but sounds Kick ass... I didnt see it mentioned anywhere, What kind of drums are those?.. They sound great.. how did you record them? Nice guitar playing and singing. You blew out one of your 20/20s?...Hmm maybe I should be more careful with mine. I have a bad habit of knocking guitar cords out while the gain is still up.

Anyway, cool tune...I need to work on some original stuff, I just posted a cover tune.... At least it keeps me playing..

I"m having no luck at all with nowhere radio. Do you have this tune on another site? Do you have to be signed up with ' nowhere' to play the tunes? Let me know
