Nature of Force
Hey guys. I just mixed a new song (w/o vocals. They'll be added later). Click the link in my sub, It's Song Idea 1.

Here's my setup and stuff:

Guitar: Peavey HP EXP
Amp: Peavey Vyper 30
Bass: Peavey Patriot
Drums: Studio Instruments Drum Kit
Mixing Board: Behringer Xenyx 1202
Microphone: Shure SM-58
Software: Sonar 7 HSXL

Sounds really good. I'm surprised that the drums sounded that good, given that they're software. Nice guitar solo (2:20). The mix could be a little tighter around 200-300 Hz.

What do you mean by tighter? Louder? Thanks

Sounds really good on my junk speakers. Nice guitar tones. Killer little solo. Put it up again with the vocals

Thanks guys! I thought the drums were crappy. I didn't like how the snare was a "psh" sound. It needed more ring, but I guess the drums don't suck if people like them. I'll let you guys know when I have vocals.

This sounds good man. Drums and guitars overall sound good. Wish I hadn't read your "psh" comment first, now that is all I can hear :).

The snare does seem a little soft and might benefit from a more forceful attack kind of sound...I dunno, I've never attempted a track like this. Nice recording so far.

Haha, I'll try compressing the snare more and see if that sounds better. Thanks for the review!

The guitars are great, are you really getting that sound out of a Peavey Vyper? I may have to pick one up. I LOVE the solo. I'm a sucker for double leads, though, and I definitely hear room for it on parts of the solo you have.

I don't mind the drum sound, but I feel like the drum beat drags a little during the versus. They make the song seem slower than it is. Maybe vocals will fill that up a bit, but since your using software anyway, why not do something amazing with the drums? Just a personal preference of mine, but I have gotten called out on doing too much drum-wise (I obviously use software too). I don't care though, I feel like good metal bands get drums right, and a lot of rock songs would be enhanced with a metal drum philosophy.

I noticed none of your songs had vocals, but the other songs don't appear to need it. Will this be your first attempt at recording vocals? Are you singing them yourself? As someone who is primarily a guitarist and singing only be necessity, I'd like to know your approach.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I really did get that sound out of my Vypyr. I just mic'ed it with an SM-58 and EQ'd it. It's not a bad amp. My sister sings and writes lyrics, I sing back up. I've recorded vocals before, but I was about 10 years old... So this will be my second REAL attempt at vocals.

Nice chops - great melodic rock. If the vocalist can handle the key, the vocals should be super easy to build for this type of track. The song lends itself to a nice melody. Well done...

:D:):D:)

Thanks a lot! :D

Sounds pretty good! The bass is a little rumbly, it's a pretty sparse mix though, so it aint too bad. It could be tightened up a little. The drums do sound surprisingly good. I'm not too crazy with the rhythm guitar tone, but it aint bad. Nice solo. Overall pretty good. :)

Love the tune, bro. Your guitars hit the sweet-spot, man... Love em'! Listening to it a 2nd time right now, and lovin' it just the same.

I'm feelin' the urge to lay down a drum-track of my own to this. Great groove ya got going on!

Keep it up!
