Look Mom, I can play!
Hi everyone,

A couple of weeks back DavidK posted a link to a track that we did together, collaborating over the atlantic via Sonar.
You can check it out at:

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1353&alid=-1&20020320172005#5141 (Drovers Hill)

I have now just recorded a tune which I have also written lyrics for. At the moment its just an instrumental. If it has lyrics, it will need a bridge to break the tempo up.

Anyway, I would appreciate comments feedback on the tune and the recording, it is one of the first done with my new Delta 66 + omni.

Thanks in advance for any constructive feedback.

I couldnt get the second link to work...even cutting and pasting.

About Drovers Hill....

I think the Violin is way too loud....it kinda dwarfs the guitar in spots. I like the song a lot though....the sounds are good and very in context to the type of song it is!

nice little tune..

At first the lead 'melody' reminded me of the Beatles... like where Paul McCartney sings 'I remember finding out about you.' It probably wont sound like that to anyone else..

I liked it though. I dont record acoustic too much, but I thought it could have sounded a bit warmer.. Not that it sounded bad, I'm just babbling as it's playing..

It was a nice little acoustic ditty.. It should be sweet with vocals.. repost it when it's done..

Thanks Samicide for your feedback, vocals is a possibility but its quite a difficult melody, dynamic range is quite challenging.

I hear what you say about the lack of warmth. The guitar is quite old and doesn't have a particularly warm tone to it but it is quite sweet nevertheless. Any ideas how i might warm up the sound a bit? There is no EQ at all nor any compression or reverb.

When I listen to Erlands acoustic sound, he has a much better tone, as you say, warmer.

DROVER'S HILL - The violin melody makes this tune sound like a medieval bard song. I think it has a nice melody. The bass guitar on the right souds weird at first, but not that bad. I guess it sounds like the old 60's and 70's recordings, where doing bass and drums center wasn't standard yet. Or maybe this was due to the collaboration quirks, or something? I think the song needs one little change somewhere there, because it feels a bit like it's going in circles. But don't take my word for it, because sometimes I'm in that prog-mode, when nothing is enough, and I need 32.235 changes in a song. Sometimes less is more. This is really a nice song that takes me waaay back.

FALLING LIKE RAIN - I couldn't get the song to play at hi-fi, and since I'm listening the lo-fi version, I can't really comment on the recording quality. I'll comment on the music. I think this song might use vocals somewhere, but not necessarily. I guess you like doing instrumentals. This is has that 'summer 10 years ago'-thing, where it sounds like a nostalgic song. This is a nice song, also.
