I just got finished recording a new song called "The Way It Has To Be". You can find it here http://www.feelslikefridaymusic.com/The Music.htm or here http://www.soundclick.com/updateband/SongInfo.cfm?BandID=285542&Updated=2041679.

Let's see, I recorded this with a Presonus Firepod - used it for pre's as well. Vocals - SP C1
Acoustic - pair of MXL 603s's
Bass - direct in
Electric Guitars - original POD - SRV Custom Strat
Drums - Drums on Demand loops

That's about it.

Let me know what you think both of the song itself and the recording quality. What's good about it and what needs work? (Forgive the vocals being a bit out of tune in a few places - I'm tired of singing tonight)

Thanks so much! You all have helped me a lot in the past.

that´s a cool song, not quite my style.... I´m not a pro ( far, far ,far from it)
Just listened and thought : cool ;)

Still, from all the songs I heard at your website the one I liked the most was "something better".Can´t get "the moooonlight" out of my head, I really think you could sell a some records with this song, maybe shortening up a bit so i doesn´t get so repetive, but they are all good songs overall

just my opnion

Well, the guitars are bit too in my face for my personal liking, and thusly it drowned out most everyting behind it. I couldn't hear a bass guitar... was there one?
Not bad on the drums for only two mics....

And you do need to retrack the vocal. It was airy in the intro, and went off key a couple times...

Hey thanks for the reply's.

Osbauro, "Something Better" has probably the best "hook" out of any songs I've written. Other songs mean more to me for different reasons, but that one probably sounds the best.

Rokket - the electric guitars are all through a POD, but I shouldn't try and hide behind that excuse. Also, there is a bass in there - in comes in and out at different points. I always end up mixing the bass too quiet. I'll work on it, as well as my crappy vocals. I was kind of going for that "airy-ness" in the first few lines of the vocal. I'm afraid I can't take any credit for the drums - they are loops.

Thanks again for listening!

Well, this didn't get many hits - but I plan on re-tracking the vocals and re-mixing a bit. I think the core of the song is good, but I just can't freakin sing the vocals right. Maybe this weekend I'll knock it out. I'll re-post once I work it up a little better.

That opening guitar line (and the repeat of it) is mixed a little too loud.

It's definitely pop (not a big fan). Sounds like most of the slow rock I've heard produced in the last 15 or so years. It was cute when the Goo Goo Dolls abandoned the punk rock ship, but they had a cute name and that's about where the cuteness ended for me.

Feels Like Friday is clever, now we got to get you sounding like a clever band! :p

The musicianship is okay, even the singing was fine despite the few mistakes. Just doesn't sound like you're trying to do anything musically other than stay sterile/non-offensive enough to ensure you'll get a gig at the local cafe.

I'm probably done reviewing tonight -- my opinion is leaking out all over the place.
