New Song - Trickle Down mix/critique

several songs into album here is latest one. This mix is getting closer. Played and sing everything etc the female vocal on choir part. Thoughts on anything glaring.

Catchy song. Good performances. Master is way too loud, compressed, and sounds to me like it's clipping. There's an abrasive quality to it that is off-putting, which is a shame because a bouncy pop tune like this should draw you in. I'd roll it back to your raw tracks and redo the mix and master, keeping an eye on levels and without all the compression and limiting. Let the song breath. My $0.02.
 
Wow this is like Grandaddy meets Pornographers, you managed to channel a couple favorites for me. I have no notes except thank you lol.
 
yeah when everything kicks in there is mud in the mids with the guitar. It's a good tone when it plays the intro by itself, then add everything and it sounds like it's competing. work on the EQ a little more and see if you can get it to pop. It's a good sounding song.
 
Clear up the mud and it'll be much clearer.
I'm not fussed on the effected vocal after the intro.
The synth line could do with some space - maybe panned it away from the busy centre a little?

I'm replacing the synth with a real analog one in the next few days not a fan of that tone. Still working on the mud I agree. I like the filtered vocal in first verse.
 
ok replaced synth and added real drums instead of samples.
 
Dynamics are much better. I'm not hearing the clipping of the earlier version.
 
I liked the first mix way more than the second. I loved the loud synth.

The second one is okay, but to me it lacks personality.

have to disagree I think the song sounds alot better with real drums
 
augmented drums with samples and raised their level a bit.

Sounds very cool, not much to critique. Sounds kinda thin/small for me but I think that fits the genre.
Personally I would give the drums more volume, to let them drive the song harder.
And maybe try to clean some unnecessary low end from tracks that don't need it.
Also I think that intro harmonies stuff is too loud. It feels like you start big with the harmonies and by the time you get to the actual song its not so exciting.
