Definitely turn the toms up...I would try compressing the snare and kick(more?)...put some more high end in the kick drum for attack...I want to hear it with vocals!

Well I would follow youre suggestions but I cant go back anymore...I erased the song from my 1680...I will get vocals on soon though(can always put it back on the machine for vocals).
I was just wondering if the overall "sound" was on or off. The guitars were all done with a "Pod". The Bass direct in. The drums with three vocal type mics and one condenser. I am thinking that I mixed the drums a little poorly. I also ran it through T-rax mastering software which really gave it some life.

What were the settings on the POD for the stereo guitars? They sounded really thick....I like them!

What I did for the guitars was...Channel vol at 12 0clock...output level at about 11 or 12 oclock...drive at about 11...bass at 10...mid at 10...treble at 3oclock... and the amp model set at Modern High Gain...also the compressor on the pod at about 8 oclock.
But what I think really made them sound the way they did was that I panned guitar 1's main signal to the far left and then set some delay on my VS and then panned the delay to the opposite side. also I did this to the other stereo guitar but tried not to get them exactly the same spot opposite each other. thanks for your critiques...

hey Mcfly,

I think you did a good job at covering this tune.. I also think you deserve props for playing all the instruments yourself...

I don't like the sound of the drums or the guitar though.. it just doesnt sound pleasing to *me*..

I think it's very cool that you played everything yourself though....I just think the overall sound is a bit off.... and at 320kbps, that tune should have sounded great..... It still probably sounds better than some of my stuff......good job!

Hey I have an idea. Since most people around here seem to have the equipment to record. I was thinking that if someone knew that they could nail the vocals on this one...they should give it a try. download it and give it your best shot. and then post it up here or something...

"Hey McFly"
Just like in the movies....huh? :)

Man I also give you props for playing all the tracks yourself but,
If you want to nail this you are gonna have to re-record....

the bass is bottom muddy....the guitars need to be crisper in my opinion...
The drums sound like they are in a different room to me....
Vox would be nice condidering that this is mostly rthymn to begin with...ya know?

Rock on Bro...
Joe :)

Yes I have to agree that you should re-record. The guitars could have a little more "balls" to them for me. They just need some lows or something to give them power. Also the drums need a ton more toms. I am a drummer and I know how this song can wear your kick foot out, so props to you for recording the whole thing. The toms have to really be out there though for this one. Try putting reverb on the snare and then mix the drums down with a nice room reverb on all of them. It will really help them blend more too. You are definately heading in the right direction with this one though. Oh, maybe you should try recording the same track twice and panning one left and one right. It really fattens up the guitar sound.

Beezoboy...
Thank you for the comments
The thing about the guitars... I already did that. They are actually two different guitars on the far left and the far right. Both are playing almost the exact same thing(but they are not duplicates of each other)but they could use more sharpness.
I also agree that the toms should have been louder.
But when I posted that someone should slap some vocals on I just thought that if someone had the actuall talent to get the vox's right that they should go ahead and do it and somehow let me hear the results. I myself cannot sing the vocals well enough to be happy with the results.
So Im still waiting...
And It's not like its that crappy...

What up mcfly dude.......your shoes untied :D

Seriously though, I think you did a damn good job with this.....

Problems definately in the drum category if anything.....I don't play drums so I wouldn't really know what is wrong but that's the biggest prob....BTW, it's a recording issue...not a playing issue..you did a good job playing the drums.

I think the reason that the drums don't sound so good is perhaps because the guitars sound great and they don't quite live up to them. I think that the rythmn guitars have plenty of balls man and if you got the drums to sound good it would only make the guitars sound better. Although I would say that the lead guitar (if that's what you want to call it) ya know the one with the riff up on the 4th and 5th fret of the b string sounds a bit shaky at some parts....I would try to get that guitar to sound a little more mechanical if you could, especially at the breaks....but man, that's so minimal.....great job really..

.....I would love to here the vocals with this...too bad I can't sing that well...you could probably do a better job then I could

Rock on dude.

I dug that cover, especially the guitars!

I had to kind of agree with the past posts about the drum sound though. They didn't quite work for me in the mix, though the actual playing was very good. It is too bad you are not able to try re-recording just those because that could make a good track into a great track with the proper sound. I can't quite put my finger on what it was about them, maybe they just sounded a bit too low, I'm not sure.

I loved the guitar work and would really like to hear this again with vocals. I think you nailed the original with the arrangement you put on this.

Good job overall!
