Hey Larry, I'm having a hard time with MP3.com, would you post it on Artist launch, it seems to work better for me.....

QQs on there with his latest, and it's in the top 100....
I seem to be able to download almost everything I want to from that site.....

Hoping to be able to hear it soon, and thanks for the E-mail...

Great song. It's got that LISlim hook where the verses are written like it's the same subject but written from another point of view. The vocal harmonies worked nicely.

LI, that was nice. I couldn't find fault in the mix.

I almost expected to hear Leon Redbone's voice... (is that his name? Do you know who I mean?).

If you ever want to do a funny silly collaboration, I want to sing like Redbone over something you do on your guits.

This was a nice tune to hear... good job.

LI,

dangit... sorry, I was listening somemore... the only thing I heard was a little bit of distortion from overload - not so much on the vox I don't think, but there were some spots where the guitar track seemed to distort... Nothing bad, but I thought you should know what I heard...

That's just nitpicking.

I think I'm also going deaf in my left ear so it might just be something flapping around in there.

I really enjoyed that song! LI, you have a very nice voice; very fine tone and beautifully in tune. I would be curious to hear how it would sound if you put a little low end in the vox though. I loved the guitar and didn't notice distortion there. What kind of guitar are you playing? It made me want to move my fingers as if i were playing along. I can't do squat with a guitar, but it would be fun to add a bit of piano (which i'm not great at either) with your vocals. I think the piano would go nice in the places where you so smoothly hold the long notes through the octave changes. I did notice some distortion in the harmonica section, but that was probably my mmjukebox. The harmonica was a nice touch. Great job!! :)

How does 1 improve upon near perfection!!?? Obviously you have found the way! Your vocals are terrific!! The way you recorded the git is so subtle and strong it's truly amazing!

Again, I hate you Larry!! :D The song is fantastic!! You make me sick!!! :D :D :D

Oh, yeah thanks for your support!! (You KNOW what I mean!!!);)

Thanks guys.

Teddie, I think you did hear distortion -- do you mean near the end when the guitar volume increases? I thought a took care of that but maybe I'm still being too aggressive with my limiter.

Langley, are you suggesting a little eq boost at the low end of the lead vocal? I've been going back and forth on that one... I play a circa 1970 Martin 00016C, which is a nylon string guitar. I recorded it into my AT 4047 mic. It's double tracked with a very slight delay, panned out about 80/20, with one side a bit bottom-heavy and the other side more top-heavy.

I'm thinking the guitar might need a touch more high end eq, to make it a bit brighter. No?

Also, does anyone think the vocal is too loud relative to the guitar during the verses?

Steve, I'll probably put it on artistlaunch in a few days, after I tinker a little. Meanwhile, try mp3.com again!

Thanks Doc.

Everyone: I'd be grateful for additional feedback, critiques, etc.

Nice

Greetings,

Nice song, man, cool guitar.

As a guitar player, I did think the vocals were a bit loud throughout the song. But thats really a taste thing.

The vocals sounded very "bare" as if there was no effects on them at all...they sound nice, but i noticed right away because i couldn't hear any reverb at all. Reverb is my vocals best friend!

I think the guitar tone is perfect for the song. I'm a hard rock guy myself, but thats nice guitar, don't tweak a knob on it!

Keep it up

Yes, more low end on the vocal eq. This may make the guitar change unnecessary. I am jealous of that mic, and really love that guitar!

Slim - the accoustic guit sounded really good to me. I thought the relationship between the vox and the guitar levelwise sounded about right. Nice tune and a pretty darn good performance on the accoustic guit

Hey, Slim - just listened to it. Nice piece of work. I also noticed some imbalance between the vocals and the guitar, and the occasional distortion, more in the beginning, I think - but then it went away. I think it might have been that you hit your stride as you got into the song, both with the voice and the instrument. How are you handling mic distances, volume and all that? Could be a little jumpy if you're close to the mic.

Very, very nice job of fingerpicking! The harmonies work and are tight - I bet that was fun to figure out. And the harmonica - your harp work at the Titanic Ten convention wasn't a fluke, was it?!!

Nice work. Makes me want to write something.

By the way, I'll be at a bluegrass festival this weekend; maybe I can get some pics up. Who knows... be in touch.

P.S. Hey, just thought of something. Yo! Mrs. Slim!! How're ya doin?!! Ya know, hubby needs to start collecting guitars. Meant to talk with you about that... He's got a fantastic start with that Martin, but he needs the steel string bite. Like a little Taylor. Maybe a maple cutaway... Elixir strings... Fishman dual source pickup... just imagine his surprise...

Thanks S.R., Ray, Steve, Tree-

Tree, I think I just boosted the guitar volume a little too much at times, so that when I added a limiting boost at the end there just wasn't enough room for it. (I am "drawing volume envelopes" using the N-track software.)

I've been getting a little closer to the mic, about 9-12 inches, and trying to modulate my voice a little more, to try to get that immediate kind of sound. Like we're just talkin', you and me.

Except for the harp of course. I previously used an sm58 for harp but this time I used one of those "bullet" mics that you hold in your hand with the harp pressed up to it. And then I turn it up and compress the shit out of it.

LiSlim,

Hello man.....Enjoyed the tune and the playing. I think I heard what a couple of others posted about but I wouldn't call it distortion. I was listening to the finger picking section thinking how great it sounded and how that was the kind of rich sound I wanted to get out of mine....and then.... it's when the full strum was happening that I thought it went from rich and full to too much low end in the guitar. The cords kind of sounded muddy which in turn really made that section sound a bit disjointed.

Harp was great! I didn't even guess it was a bullet. That distortion sound is great when you can control it obviously you were able to.

Very good work!

Thanks Rusty.

I see what you mean. It is true that I tend to use more low end eq, when finger picking. I needed more restraint when playing the strumming sections.

Nice playing Slim!

I was listening and wondering how you got the sound level so strong. I also wondered what happened to the high end. I read the other replies on this thread and saw the answers :)

Anyway, I enjoyed the tune and thought if you can't really get more high end out of the guitar (nylon strings) maybe the vocal tracks could extend a little more into the higher frequencies. Maybe cover a little more ground of the sonic spectrum....?

I think that's a good suggestion MAC. I'm going to play around a little with my db-audioware multiband limiter and try to add some sparkle.

nice playing man, and nice singing.

The mix was really bad though.

I checked the metres and they pretty much stayed on zero most of the time.

The distortion was pretty bad. It was evident on most of the song.

THe vocal sounded lacking. It kinda had a flangey effect that did not sound good.

I liked the other intrument(was it a harmonica?) except that it was also clipping pretty bad on my converters.

THe mix had NO dynamic range.

I think the guitar sound could have been better.

I listened to "gotta have goals. I hope this is the one you were talking about.

peace.
