new song mix

Hi there,

You have a lot of noise going on there. Can you remove it with a DAW?

Vocal double needs to be tighter and louder against the gtr I think. There are a couple of pitchy things here and there which could also be fixed up.

There are a couple of spots on the double gtr where you could tighten up the double. Also try dropping one of the tracks momentarily when you hit those low notes - this will stop the build up and boom of the notes peaking through.

When they both start to strum they are way too loud against everything else. They also seem to spike up quite a lot and may benefit from a touch of compression to tame that down. Try the levels first, though I think.

I didn't get a sense of space listening to this recording, (or most of mine for that matter ;)), rather everything seems very close and in my face. I would like to hear the vocals up that close, with the guitars staggered back into the mix from that point. You are creating a real sense of intimacy with your vocal approach in this which would benefit from a greater focus.

Thanks for the listen and good luck with the CD.

hi Qwerty

thx for listening...and great suggestions,,i think i can get rid of the noise..and fix some of the other problems..one thing i seem to have trouble with is getting space in a song...how would i go about it? thx Derek

You're asking the wrong person there mate.

I suggest you trawl through these forums, download as much as possible, find songs with depth and space and pay attention to how the authors say they did it!

Essentially blending different reverbs and reverb send and return levels to create a cohesive acoustic whole.....

And do a search for Studioviols and read what he has to say on the subject, something like "Choose which instrument is the star and let it shine" rings a bell......
