AGE OF AMERICA (c) Larry Kolker 2011

[Chorus:] It’s the start of the end of the age of America, thank God, thank God

It’s the start of the end of the age of America.

I read it in a real newspaper, and my Yahoo Finance screen

By 2016, China will be the largest economy

Now we can be like England, Now we can be like France

We can plant some flowers, and fin’ly learn to dance

Chorus

Don’t have to go to Venus, Don’t have to go to Mars,

We can trade in our gas guzzlers for those cute little 2-seat cars

Won’t have to kill no evil men, in no foreign lands

Just hope we can wash away the blood that’s on our hands.

Chorus

We’ll reclaim the vision of life and liberty

The land that Thomas Jefferson thought that we could be

So good luck to you China, Congrats on the news

And be careful what you try for – you’ve got a lot to lose

Chorus

I like it. At first it enraged me that you were bashing the good ole' U.S.A., but then I got the message as I read on.

+1. Me too. I was like, wait a second...but it made more sense as I read on.

Cool lyrics!

Thanks very much for your reactions; really appreciate it.

The fact that these nauseating levels of gushing patriotism are even tolerated or taken seriously by anyone in civilised society upsets me, the fact that it's actually applauded or even expected as standard behaviour by any significant portion of people in the USA makes we wonder if there's any hope left for us.

And you wonder why the world hates you.

Grow up. You've been fooled.

Dude it's not really a standard patriotic tribute. It's saying that the country a lot of us want to love because we're a part of it has fallen from grace and what it supposedly stands for in the name of remaining #1 through war and corporate greed. It's sort of a love-hate song.

Thanks Dibi. I'm afraid there will always be those who don't let the facts or circumstances get in the way of their opinions. I enjoyed it though; this is probably the first time I've been accused of being overly patriotic.

The self imposed status as world policeman really has become a burden and has allowed things at home to slowly deteriorate.
If the expansionism of the moment isn't replace by protectionism in the future you should have the opportunity, one can only hope, for a mature America to have the chance to develop a culture based on something other than the things you've addresses: might, right, comsumerism & motor cars.
You've enough people, variety and creativity to do so.
I would only call this "patriotic" in the sense that you're essaying a different and better future for you home - something I would like to extrapolate, in a non culturally imperialistic way, where ever it might take root.

Thanks Ray. Exactly.
