Not my kind of thing style-wise. Congratulations on writing this though...I can't write "real" songs so you get xtra credit for that. I wonder if perhaps the reverb on the vocals is a bit much (and I love excessive reverb). Love the backwards stuff at the ending.

The piano sounds a bit choppy. Maybe you meant it, but it seems to struggle between flowing and stacatto--so maybe a sustain pedal issue?

Very pretty song--big and intimate vocal, so I'd say less reverb too. A bit drier (on the low voice) will emphasise the closeness of the vocal.

Don't mean to nit pick too much, I know you called this a rough demo. For me a rough demo is to step back and see what I've got and figure out if its worth taking to next level. This one definitely is--keep it up.

Here's my advice. This song would work on an album if followed by a louder, more energetic song (more energetic relative to this song). To "work" on its own, it needs to come to a climax. You have a very chilled out sound, which is great, but it's completely static for the whole song.

My choral professor used to say, "music is always becoming..." (you fill in the blank: softer, louder, slower, faster, more intense, less intense.) When music is static (not changing in some way), it's boring. Not saying your piece is boring, but it's something to keep in mind with all musical endeavors.

...

I will definitely lower the reverb on the lower vocal, thanks!

You're definitely right about it not having a climax =X, I dont know I find it kind of hard to create that much of a climax when i can't really record drums and have them sound strong and powerful (i don't really have the equipment =/). Thanks for the comments! I'll definitely work on this song a lot. =]

Ah, but see, you don't need drums to make music strong and powerful. That's just one tool. Perhaps challenge yourself and see if you can make it strong and powerful some other way? ;)

Good work though, young padawan.

thats true... I can sing in a higher register, that may add to the climax of the song... But im not confident at all about my singing... thats why i haven't played live shows yet =X I don't think my voice is anything special... I kind of just love writing music =] whether i perform it or not...

The best way to boost your confidence is to get out there, make mistakes while performing, and keep performing. ;) I used to have terrible performance nerves. I still do (who doesn't?) but now they're just "excitement nerves", like I can't wait to do it. Open mikes are a good place to wet your feet. You can make a fool of yourself and no one cares, because open mikes are always so bad.

If you're more into writing, though, that's cool too. Are you in school? You should major in music comp.

I was majoring in Music with a "concentration" in audio, but i decided to just fully concentrate on audio for now then get a degree when I am done with this 1 year audio training school. I learned a lot about music theory in my one year at that music college but figured I wanted more audio and that school was mostly about music, I did learn a ton about music while i was there though. i'll eventually get out there! haha, pretty soon actually, I just want to "perfect" my live playing as much as possible before i get out there.
