Hey

I just finished recording a new song I wrote and thought I'd add a little flavor with some djembe. Please listen and let me know what you think. Here's how I mic'd it. sm57 at the base of the drum and condensor mic (crappy superlux) about 8 inches from the rim of the drum. Don't be too hard on my playing. . .I have about 2 hours playing this thing total, so I'm not very good.

The song is the first one on the list: "Something Better"

Thanks in advance!!

Hmmmm, no opinions??

I'm trying to create a drum track in fruity loops (never done this before--in fact, never hit a drum before in my life, but you've got to start somewhere--I don't even really know what all pieces are in a decent kit) for this one as well. I'll finish and get it up soon.

The guitars & vocals sound sort of thin - The djembe actually sounds quite good, but it site "above" the mix instead of inside it.

Just a bit of tweaking...

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I need to work on the vocals and guitar a bit more. . .kinda just recorded them sitting in front of my computer really fast. . .probably spent about 10 minutes on this thing total.

Very nice...
How are miking the guitar? And what kind of acoustic are you playing...nice sound.

Let's see, for that one I used an sm57 about 6 inches away pointed at about the 10th-ish fret and I ran it line in. I panned the mic left and the line in right.

I put up a new version of the song just now. I re-did the acoustic guitar--used a condensor instead of the 57. . .everything else the same. I also took out the djembe and put a drum track I made up in fruity loops. Don't criticize my drum-track making--I've never hit a drum in my life. . .I didn't even really know what different pieces were in a kit. I also mastered??? the new version a bit better. . .the volume levels are up to normal.
